14 Questions With Alli Webb

by The Candidly Team

This article is part of our series called "People We Like," in which we highlight interesting women, across all walks of life.

Leaders, great cooks, doctors, parents, writers; people who inspire us.

Today, we’re featuring Alli Webb, co-founder of the groundbreaking blowout chain DryBar and president of Canopy, the brand behind the cleanest, healthiest, most skin-quenching humidifier around.

The Candidly Questionnaire

1. What’s an overrated value you don’t buy into?

That you have to work like a dog to be successful.

2. Are essential oils anything?

Yes! I diffuse aroma oils with my Canopy Humidifier, and it makes my entire home smell so wonderful. I think essential oils can be beneficial for helping to gently guide your mindset during the day - for example, diffusing invigorating scents in the morning and daytime and switching to relaxing scents like lavender at night. (The Lavender Dream oil from Canopy's collaboration with Laneige is one of my favorites!)

3. What's the most effective beauty trick you use?

Sleep and water.

4. How do you get your self-esteem?

Self-awareness is everything.

Are you even aware of what makes you happy? What makes you feel a sense of purpose? What gets you out of bed in the morning? What brings you joy?

I can’t believe how one day I can feel so shitty and the next I feel like solid gold. I try to stay in a practice of hot yoga, meditation, going on walks, and being of service to others. It gets me out of my head.

5. What meal do you dream of?

I love crab legs… and french fries.

6. What’s your favorite (non-living) thing in your house right now?

My backyard. I love being outside in my backyard the most. My bed is a close second.

7. How do you handle conflict in your closest relationships?

Putting that shit on the table. I think the best thing we can do when we have conflict is to open up and put it out there instead of keeping it inside. The less I let things fester, the better.

I am also learning not every single feeling has to become a fight and how liberating it can be to not be so easily offended, which I usually am.

8. What’s your most compelling quality?

I think you would have to ask my nearest and dearest, but I think they would say my generosity.

9. If you could only follow one account on social media, who would it be?

Oprah.

10. What’s something you’ve changed your mind about in the past year?

All things aren’t as they appear.

11. What do you do to get into a flow state?

I practice the things that make me really happy, excited, and alive. It usually involves sweating.

12. What’s the most interesting thing you’ve learned about yourself as a leader?

Patience and grace. I can be pretty reactive and impetuous, so learning how detrimental that can be to an organization was a big lesson for me.

13. Is social media ruining everything?

It can be a wonderful tool for people who want to work on themselves and be inspired by creators, visionaries, and leaders. It can also serve as a connection point for meeting people and building relationships.

I try to not pay too much attention to the other side of social media that doesn’t serve me or make me feel good—like having fomo or becoming obsessed with what others have or are doing. It’s a very slippery slope.

14. No one is home. Nothing is due. Emails are answered. You have the day blessedly to yourself. What do you do?

Binge watch my favorite TV shows, go on a walk, listen to music, go in my sauna, and hang out with Cappy + Cookie.
