The Candidly Questionnaire

1. What’s your most compelling quality?

I live life to the fullest, and take on many adventures, opportunities and friendships.

2. What’s your worst quality, according to your friends?

I overcommit at times, but I’m self aware and trying to work on it! I also don’t love talking on the phone, which, being from another country originally doesn’t really bode well.

3. What’s an overrated value you don’t buy into?

Being happy everyday; no one can do that.

4. How do you feel about cilantro?

I adore it.

5. Are essential oils anything?

They are everything. In a diffuser, in the bath, on my pillow at night. I use lavender and eucalyptus daily.

6. What's the most effective beauty trick you use?

The ZIIP micro-current device.

7. How do you get your self-esteem?

I try not to over-process things too deeply. Intuition is key, so I focus on staying present and not getting caught up in internal narratives. We all get too caught up in our own heads.

8. What meal can you make the hell out of?

This healthy sweet and sour soup recipe from Goop.

9. What’s the most interesting thing you’ve learned about yourself as a leader?

Given the state of the world and the very realistic shift we’ve all felt in our personal lives, the biggest lesson I’ve learned in the past year is how much empathy and compassion is needed to be a good leader. They’re qualities that I think leadership of the past didn’t fully possess or just overlooked.

Integrity, active listening and certain EQ qualities have existed, but this past year has shined a light on having humility, being understanding of your employees personal lives and how that affects their work, and making sure your work environment fosters creativity and collaboration.

10. What’s your favorite item of clothing you own?

My Veda leather bomber jacket.

11. How do you handle conflict in your closest relationships?

I try to handle it head-on when it comes up. Sometimes that’s helpful, but sometimes, I probably could use a little extra time processing.

12. What’s something you’ve changed your mind about in the last year?

Offshore sailing. It wasn’t on my bucket list before, but now it is.

13. Is social media ruining our brains?

I think certain aspects of social media are affecting our emotional state. Social interactions with other people are a major factor in how we develop, learn and grow. On one hand, the internet and social media have allowed us to expand our horizons and channels of information, which is great. It can inspire new hobbies, relationships, teach us, and connect us.

But my worry is what do we actually do with these new ideas? If we were actively turning these into hobbies, friendships, studies, artistic expressions, that would be one thing, but I think social is becoming an addiction, which is the issue. Along with constantly trying to impress, being judged by others, and living in that world instead of reality.

14. Who is someone in your field of work that you admire?

Beth Comstock and Ty Montague.

15. What Insta account speaks to you deeply?

@ckyourprivilege, as it's a great daily reminder and resource to challenge your anti-racism growth and continue your journey. Also, @italysegreta as I have a slight obsession with Italy and their culture.

16. What quote or phrase has stayed with you?

“Life is a series of natural and spontaneous changes. Don’t resist them — that only creates sorrow. Let reality be reality. Let things flow naturally forward in whatever way they like.” — Lao Tzu

17. What’s your favorite movie from the last ten years?

Roma, easily.

18. Describe your actual bedtime routine.

I’m an early sleeper, and it's more of a series of rituals than a routine as it changes constantly. Currently I like winding down with a bath with lavender oil that I purchased in Hvar, Croatia. It brings me back every time I smell it! Then I read — right now, either sailing books or pregnancy books, but I also love a good novel.

19. What’s your relationship with bangs?

I love them on others, but my curly hair doesn’t allow for them, especially with my preferred lack of styling.
