Here Are The 10 Most Popular Google Searches of Women Over 40.

You know you want to know.

by The Candidly Team

I recently stumbled upon a list collected by AARP. Rather than brush past it, in full denial of my near-AARP age, I leaned in so close to my screen, I nearly knocked it off the back of my desk.

The reason was this: the article claimed to have collected the most Googled things by women over 40. And of course, my nosey, voyeur self needed to know. And since you’re here, you need to know too. I won’t draw this out. Here are the top 10 thing being Googled by ladies like us. Let’s just say, we relate.

1. Why are my periods so irregular?

We know it’s for different reasons, but it’s kind of comforting to think that this is probably a very similar search our 15-year-old selves would have typed into Google, given that 14% to 25% of us have irregular menstrual cycles.

But the fact that we’re all of a sudden asking this question in our 40s implies there’s been a recent change, and the most obvious assumption may be perimenopause. Changes in your period are a common sign, but as with all medical questions we ask of the internet, the only conclusive answers we’re going to get are going to be from a doctor.

2. Early symptoms of bone density loss

When our bone-protecting estrogen levels drop, which happens around menopause, we start to experience bone loss. So, it’s no wonder that countless conscientious women are looking for early warning signs.

Unfortunately, according to the Mayo Clinic, there aren’t a lot of detectable symptoms in the early stages of bone loss. It often isn’t until our bones have been weakened by osteoporosis that we feel the effects, which is why we may want to target our searches around bone health toward prevention and rebuilding, both which we can do something about. And we wrote all about this HERE.

3. Does Botox hurt?

This is actually the first of a mile-long list of questions we have and often hear about Botox, which is why we eagerly got our most pressing questions answered HERE.

But the short answer is, yes, Botox hurts. Though probably not that much. I mean as much as any itty-bitty, stinging injection from a tiny needle would. And for some lucky people, not at all. You can probably handle it. But if you’re just never going to be the kind of person who willingly does needles try THIS or THIS.

4. Causes of women’s hair loss

Honestly, we’ve been wondering this ourselves ever since we noticed sad little clumps of our precious hair puddling up in the corners of our shower. And so we did a deep dive into what’s making it thin out, along with what we can do about it HERE.

5. Jennifer Aniston’s beauty routine

We’ve actually gone to great lengths to answer this question. And we came up with The. Exact. Routine. See it HERE.

6. Help for hot flashes

Hot flashes are part of a transitional period in menopause that typically starts between 45-50. Intrusive and uncomfortable as they are, it makes sense that we’re flocking to find solutions. We’ve learned there are some lifestyle things that can help, from deep breathing to avoiding caffeine and alcohol.

It’s worth noting that while women in their 40s and 50s experience hot flashes to varying degrees, if you happen to be under 40 and having this symptom, it can be sign of a medical issue that needs attention.

7. Best CBD oils

Oooh, another one we’ve investigated. Call us Type A, or maybe just people whose job it is to get into the weeds, but we really like when we have an answer at the ready. So if you happen to be among the CBD curious, HERE are some solid products we’ve researched that work for all the lovely ailments we endure on the daily.

8. Is brain fog real?

We assume so. What else could possibly explain why we had to read this question three times just to process? And once again, it can be a frustrating part of perimenopause and menopause as well as a symptom of certain debilitating medical conditions. Lately it’s gotten more attention as a lingering effect of Covid.

For us, it often comes hand in hand with chronic fatigue, and THESE are the only things that have helped with that.

In short, there are lots of reasons women in their 40s might experience brain fog, and if you’re among them/us, it’s worth talking to your doctor.

9. Can I run with knee pain?

Can we just pause to declare our deep admiration for the women Googling this? We’ve personally had to turn to highly creative measures to get our sluggish pain-free selves to complete any semblance of a workout, and here you are standing before a search engine asking it to ok your aching knees for a run. We’d bow to you, if not for our own aching…everything.

10. Viagra

We can’t say we know for sure what women over 40 are asking when they type in this singular term, but we suspect it has something to do with being the one in their household who handles all the ordering of all the things for all the people. Or maybe they’re seeking some female version of the “solution” Viagra’s meant to offer, in which case maybe go HERE?
