It’s a damn shame that Free People gets written off as a boho brand for 20-somethings, because the quality and fit of their clothes is something truly special for women in their (our) 40s. And they are nothing short of masterful at creating sets. You’ll see us rave about their famous Freya set later, but this one, with its lovely texture, cocooning cardi and high-rise jogger pant, is such heaven to wear, you hardly expect all the compliments or questions about where you got it to fly your way. But they keep coming. Comes in an astounding 18 colors - all good - how?!

2. Z Supply All Day Knit Denim Jacket And Hunter Knit Denim Pant
We wrote all about this knit denim jacket a little while ago, because 1) there is nothing else quite like it and 2) it fills a hole in our wardrobe we didn’t know we had. Key attributes include that it’s soft and easy and effortlessly cool and matches everything. It comes in 4 shades of denim and 3 other pretty colors. It has clean, jean jacket lines but feels like your favorite hoodie. Okay, now we get to the really exciting part. It now comes as part of the cutest set. The matching pants have the same stretchy comfort, but they’re wildly flattering. The assembled set makes us look taller and slimmer, but we also look like we’re wearing clothes, even though we feel like we’re in pajamas.

Negative has some sort of Rumpelstiltskin-like magic going on behind the scenes that is making their loungewear the softest, most luxurious feeling pieces to ever touch our skin. This new set is no exception. But then there’s the cut, which is sooo flattering, especially on curves. See how the pant kicks out just enough to give you balance and make you feel like you’re wearing pants instead of pajama bottoms? The pullover has the collar and neckline to make us look very “put together” but pay attention to the length not being too long, so our waists look nipped. We’ve been talking about these joggers for a looooong time, though we admit, Oprah was the first one to talk about them. This is the set we fantasize about living in - buttery soft and breathable. But see how it’s not too thick? So it looks sleek enough to wear under a winter coat and come off very polished and “quiet luxury.” This is also the set you’ll want to gift any special humans in your life, because it will be their favorite thing to wear.

Gap’s famously cloudlike CashSoft creations are hard to choose from, but this set has such great balance between the oversized sweater and the bootcut pant, so yes, we wear it to lounge in but also dress it up for brunch. It skims over bellies and bigger hips, never looking a smidge frumpy like so many knit sets can. It also has a liiiiitttle bit of weight to it that makes it so you never want to take it off. Because of all this, we’ve found it necessary to own in multiple colors.
