This Brand We Never Think About Is Our New Favorite Store For Flattering Basics

Basics with a sort of prairie, beachy, milkmaid twist.

by The Candidly Team

Most of us want more basics.

But we never want to look basic.

We just always search for well-fitting, comfortable, pretty clothes that feel wearable. AND that make sense for our daily lives of mostly work, a handful of date nights, and endless, so very endless, errands.

And recently, while our husbands shopped for their favorite shirts, we plucked a few things on to try at nothing other than…

Faherty.

Have you heard of it? It’s a surfy brand started by the Faherty family who still own it to this day. Which is nice. They’re thoughtful about social and environmental issues, and shopping this brand feels a little less corporate and soulless than most.

If you were into Ralph Lauren as a teen, and you have maybe a little bit of a beachy wanderlust, you’ll be into Faherty clothes.

They fit great, the materials are beautiful, everything is well-made, they wash beautifully, and they seem to go with everything else you own.

Here’s 13 pieces we’re currently lusting after. And a few that we actually bought, as you’ll see them on a real, live, non-model person.

Let’s go.

1. The Floaty Top That Works With Every Type Of Bottom

Willa Sleeveless Top

This easy, floating top feels like the kind of piece that’s already been in your closet for 10 years. The kind of top you always reach for because it just works with everything. Roomy in the boob and stomach, but sleek-looking when tucked in, this the perfect fall, transition piece. (Imagine a corduroy, Meg Ryan/When Harry Met Sally Blazer over this!?)

Price: $128

2. The skirt that feels like house clothes

Santana Gingham Skirt

Faherty is reeeeeeally thinking when they create an abundance of elasticated waistbands for their skirts. Who the hell wants some inflexible band with zippers and buttons when you can have this slightly ruffled, stretchy dreamboat? And the length on this skirt!? And GINGHAM!?!

Price: $138

3. The dress that is almost TOO flattering

Montana Dress

If you love your legs, this dress is perfect. If you hate your legs, this dress is somehow the perfect length to make them look great. And a smocked waist and flowy arms to boot? It’s a curvy girl’s wildest dream.

Price: $178

4. The Gauzy Maxi Skirt We’re Always Hunting For

Dream Cotton Gauze Valentina Skirt

Simple? Yes. Easy to find? No. Gauzy, easy to wear, and a true maxi (on non Amazon models). This is the skirt you wear 3-5 days a week in the warmish months, and make no apologies for it.

Price: $148

5. The Sort of t-shirt but not. Oh and with the most magic (and hard to find) arm length

Legend™ Rib Tee

This arm length is the best arm length if you feel like t-shirts never hang right on you. Throw it on with jeans, or your favorite wide-leg pants, and poof, it’s not just clothes, it’s an outfit.

Price: $78

6. The might as well be called “the perfect august dress”

Lakeview Linen Dress

Smocking is magic. It’s important everyone is aware of this. That’s why 87% of the pieces on this very list have smocking. But this dress is so perfectly smocked, a bra is not required. Yes, even if you’re very busty. The overall look is so throw-it-on-and-you’re-done which is all we want in the dog days of summer. Fine, fling on a jean jacket at night if it gets chilly where you are. Oh, and these shoes.

Price: $188

7. The Up-Leveled Chambray Shirt

Tried And True Patchwork Shirt

We are HUGE FANS of the denim shirt. There is sort of nothing it can’t do. It can be your overshirt, your jaunty little flourish with it tied around the waist, and yet it whispers classic in this very chic but underdone way. We’re always on the hunt for an amazing one. And this one is amazing. (Scroll up to the white skirt photo above to see it in action)

Price: $148

8. This Skirt We Cook Barefoot In

Harlow Skirt

Lovely for summer, yes. But begging to be paired with tights and brown riding boots. And another supremely comfortable smocked waist that is somehow also wildly flattering!

Price: $148

9. The softer more wearable Button-down for our curvy and/or earthy friends

Olli Top

If you love the look of simple, white button down shirts, but can never seem to make them work for you, can we interest you in this perfectly made peasant blouse? Roomy in the arm, stomach, and boob, but cut so well, everything looks sleek. Here it is in gingham, because they were sold out of white (no surprise) and it’s also perfection.

Price: $148

10. The t-shirt that turns clothes into outfits

Rugby Jersey Tee

Oh, look. It’s the boxy, loose-fit, easy breezy t-shirt we dream about. Are you scared of a horizontal stripe? Of course you are. You had a mother didn’t you? But guess what? They’re actually flattering. She was wrong. Don’t be afraid. Lean in.

Price: $68

11. The perfect throw-on dress for our juicy apples

Palos Verdes Dress

Apple shapes, behold! Bloated babes, ah ha! Zero cinching anywhere, and yet, the cut of this cute canvas dress is still beyond flattering. Throw this on with a cute pair of flips, and that’s your entire outfit, sorted. And for some strange reason, that shade of army green looks excellent on everyone.

Price: $168

12. The Chic Maxi Dress That’s Basically A T-Shirt

Cabana Towel Terry Dress

It’s a towel? That’s also a dress? YES. And it’s the most practical-yet-cute “cover up” adjacent piece of clothing we’ve seen in a long time.

Price: $178

13. Oh look. Another easy t-Shirt that looks wildly chic by just pairing with jeans

Cloud Cotton Varsity Tee

Varsity-esque stripes make everything 437% more cute. We don’t make the rules, you guys.

Price: $78
