Sometimes we see someone in the world looking so gorgeous we immediately need to figure out how to recreate that look. And it’s especially lovely when that person is over 40, because try as we might to copy the makeup of 27-year-olds, we usually end up looking … tired, heavy-lidded, clownish. Ah, who are we kidding? Old. We look old when we wear a lot of makeup. It feels so ironic because post-40, we have things to cover now that we’re seeing wrinkles and age spots and texture, but to look our glowiest and prettiest, we have to show tremendous restraint.

And so, when we saw the luminous, bronzed, golden, glowing, underdone glamour of Kristen Wigg at the SAG awards, we sprung into action to figure out how to recreate it for you. And, let’s be honest, for us:

The especially nice thing about this look is that it works on everyone, for any event, anytime. And the reason it’s so pretty is because it’s a little bit underdone and “lived in” as makeup artists say, so even if you’re truly a beginner at this stuff, you can absolutely recreate this look. No scary techniques required. We sleuthed and sleuthed and only could find the skincare products her makeup artist used (and, of course, feel free to buy those exact ones, we just haven’t tried them) but here’s her insta:

We found a handful of verrrry easy-to-use products that require no skill or talent and, blessedly, no brushes. Just think—what if this turned into your “I can actually nail this makeup myself and look hot every time I go to anything remotely fancy” look? And actually, if you remove the lower lash line color, this could even be your every day, easy “holy shit, I can look this hot every morning in 5 minutes?” routine. Ok, so here are the products. With little tips for how to use them. Don’t overthink it.

1. SKIN PREP

WHAT: Merit Great Skin Serum*

This has become such a favorite as a one-and-done drink of water for our skin, especially in the colder months. It acts like a serum/moisturizer/primer in one, so you just slap on 2 pumps, wait a couple minutes before applying makeup, and that’s it. It works wonders on texture and pores.

2. FACE

WHAT: Danessa Myricks Beauty Yummy Skin Blurring Balm Powder*

We have been writing about this cream-to-powder balm since the second it launched because nothing on planet earth does what this does. It’s a full coverage concealer, foundation, and powder in one. It banishes any redness, completely gets rid of the look of pores, covers the darkest of undereye circles, and YET, it is entirely undetectable. It just looks like your skin, but with a filter. It’s honestly magic and we don’t understand it.

WHAT: Saie SuperSuede™ Radiant Talc-Free Baked Powder Blush in Ciao*

What’s so utterly gorgeous about Kristen’s skin is that there’s not some big, distinct highlight, which tends to look makeuppy. She just looks healthy and “lit from within” overall. This blush from Saie, specifically in this color, has that subtly peachy, terra cotta tone (never orange though) that looks like you just sat out under a hot sun in the Mediterranean, and it adds a lovely sheen with zero glitter. This blush, in this color, is it. (Ok, fine you need a blush brush for this but you already have one clattering around in your drawer).

3. EYES

WHAT: Merit Solo Shadow in Midcentury*, and Sartorial*

Swipe Midcentury* on the upper lid with your fingers and smudge around—you can’t mess it up. Smudge Sartorial* on the lower lashes. Probably add more than you think you should.

WHAT: Sarah Creal Eyes Up 24H Creamy Kajal Longwear Eyeliner in Copper

Scribble this on lower lashes AND right in the root of the upper lash line. If you have eye bags (not circles, bags) skip putting this on your lower lashes because it’ll make them look worse.

WHAT: Tower 28 MakeWaves® Lengthening + Volumizing Mascara in Drift*

When people do a smoky eye at “our age” they usually use black which just makes everything look harsh. The reason KW’s blue eyes pop so much is because brown is a perfect contrast. We love this shade of brown but we also love this formula because it’s super for never flaking and never itching even on sensitive eyes.

4. LIPS

WHAT: Merit Signature Lip Liner in Bespoke*

There is simply no dupe for this exact lip liner formula and color. It’s a little bit sheer so it creates a shadow that makes your lips look much fuller, without those hideously painful lip plumping gloss ingredients. And the color is never, ever, ever orange. Or brown. Or pink. It’s all just somewhere in between. We wrote an entire exegesis on this exact product HERE, and this sort of “your lips but better color” on Kristen is such a genius way to not look too overdone since the eyes are a little bit bold. But her lips also don’t look too nude and 90s—which is, of course, gorgeous, but that can start to look a little bit “done” which is not what we’re going for.

WHAT: Merit Shade Slick Tinted Lip Oil in Twin Set*

Slightly nude but with some mauvey tones so nothing is ever washed out. And because it’s glossy, everything looks sort of sheer and effortless and pretty. Weirdly perfect both for a full face of makeup or worn with just a slick of mascara and nothing else.

Let’s end by gazing at the look again shall we?
