As much as we like to think of ourselves as the queens of our own weird and frazzled little lifestyle empires, we know in our hearts that Martha Stewart’s day-to-day life looks nothing like ours. The caviar she enjoys in her bathrobe. The smoldering swimsuit shoots. The surreally glowing skin at age 84.
So when we heard about her unmatchable nighttime routine let’s just say we couldn’t exactly relate. For the complete play-by-play, better to hear from Martha herself:
For those of you not keen on volume-up content, here’s the gist of it:
She eats out (most weeknights) in the city and stays out, in her words, “late.”
She gets home and makes the rounds to check in on her many farm animals, which have already been tended to, but in true Martha form, she just makes sure.
She then starts on the unboxing. Gift after gift. Package after package. Bills go in a pile for her business manager. Landscape catalogs go to the gardener. Gifts go to her assistant so Martha can be sure to craft “thank yous” to every single sender, from brands to buddies.
For those of us without Martha’s dining out budget or at-home menageries, the lifestyle routine isn’t exactly repeatable. So after watching this video detailing her evening wind down, we scoured the internet to find out exactly what she does as her actual getting ready routine: the skincare and the makeup part. And here’s what we found:
THE SKINCARE
There is no arguing that Martha’s skin speaks for itself. Some of her products are pricey, some come from her own ELM skincare line, and some are $8.
Elm Biosciences A3O Elemental Serum
She describes this ELM serum as leaving her skin taut, cool and tingly. The formula targets the full spectrum of issues that age you: dullness, oxidative stress, wrinks and lines, redness, irritation, and droop, and it does all this while supposedly being less harsh and irritating than vit C.
Price: $135
Furtuna Skin Due Alberi Biphase Moisturizing Oil
We were already deeply on board the Furtuna oil train when we heard Martha’s makeup artist uses their acclaimed oil to give her that signature, glazed glow we so admire.
Price: $125
Alastin Skincare HydraTint Pro Mineral Sunscreen
SPF is one of 3 things that are proven to be anti-aging in our skincare. And leave it to Martha to find one that leaves you with the healthiest skin tint of your life.
Price: $84
Elm Biosciences A3O Elemental Night Cream
The powerful punch of an overnight retinoid fuses with ELM’s A3O™ Proprietary Complex, which apparently “supports the skin’s natural collagen production, improves texture, and helps support the skin's natural moisture barrier.” You get tons of smoothness and moisture from this cream but it leaves you feeling firm, which is all we really want once we turn 40.
Price: $149
THE MAKEUP
Call us obsessive, but we also watched and rewatched her entire full face makeup tutorial, where she happens to use one of our favorite brands for mature skin, Merit. And , of course, we gathered all those products for you, too. The whole thing truly takes less than 5 minutes.
The Minimalist
Perfecting Complexion Stick
So silky, dewy, and skin-like, so it doesn’t crinkle into lines or cake. We dab it on then blend with THIS* brush.
Price: $38
Solo Shadow Eye Color
If you have fine lines or hooded eyelids, this will be your new best friend. It doesn’t drag and stays even all day. We actually wrote a whole article about these shadows, they’re so life-changing.
Price: $26
Shade Slick Tinted Lip Oil
We actually pair this acclaimed lip oil with our favorite lip liner* on the planet (which happens to be Merit). We line our lips in the shade Bespoke*, and add pretty much any color of the oil, and it makes our lips look so much fuller, it’s a little jarring. See a before and after for proof HERE.
Price: $24
