It’s hard to dress chic in the heat. But it recently dawned on us that the women who manage to do it best tend to have very classic, understated style.

Rather than stocking up on a bunch of loud, colorful things, they always seem to be wearing the most “quiet luxury” version of every summer staple.

So naturally, we turned to these women to inspire a shopping list of very specific items that can, and we’re not overstating this, totally transform your warm-weather wardrobe.

And amazingly, we found our entire list at one store. It’s one of the most classic, quiet luxury, staple stores around - the one and only J.Crew.

We knoooooow we’re millennials but online J.Crew is still that good. Their quality is spot on, their size range is unrivaled … not to mention they’re almost always running a HUUUUGE sale.

So without further ado, here is our quiet luxury capsule wardrobe - all from J.Crew:

1. THE MID-LENGTH SKIRT AND LINEN BLAZER

Pleated skirt in cotton poplin

There really aren’t enough skirts this length. They read short, so our legs look longer, but they cover everything that matters, including our knees. They look as good with flats as they do with heels … or cute, little sneaks. This one is a proper, quiet luxury skirt that matches every top we already own. The pleating also covers every lump and bump on our hips and thighs.

Price: $124.50

Margeaux blazer in stretch linen blend

This blazer has two things all blazer should have:

A) A skimming silhouette that emphasizes our hourglassiness

B) Actual, real-life stretttttttch

The black and tan are perfect as a spring/ summer layering piece over denim and dresses, but the white sadly keeps selling out in our size. Though maybe it has yours?

Price: $228

2. The CRISP, WHITE Button-Down and COTton Pants

Étienne cropped button-up shirt in cotton poplin

If we could only pack 4 items in our summer suitcase, this white button-down would be one of them. With a rolling up of the sleeves, it becomes our chicest summer top with shorts, drawstring pants, and skirts, but we also wear it open over our swimsuits which immediately eliminates any self-consciousness we know we shouldn’t have but alas, we are still a work in progress. We like the shorter length because it means we don’t have to fuss with a sweaty tuck all day long.

Price: $48.50

Luna pant in cotton poplin

We write A LOT about linen pants, because they’re a godsend in summer, but if we had to trade in all our linen pants for one perfect summer pant (which happens to be cotton), we would do it for these pants. They’re cut to skim each leg and nip the waist with that drawstring. Yes, they feel like pajamas, but they read very sophisticated.

Price: $98

3.The Kickout, Cropped Jeans and Strappy Sandals

Charley kickout cropped jean

A kickout jean balances curves so we don’t look top heavy or like upside down triangles. We wear these stretchy jeans with THIS tank and the below sandals to recreate CBK’s minimalist/ eternally chic summer look.

Price: $148

Kacie block-heel sandals in patent leather

Strappy and luxe, but that low block heel means we exist in endless comfort.

Price: $124.50

4. The Chic Sun Hat

Wide-brim packable straw hat

We write about this hat ALL the time. It has the perfect proportions. And it’s packable!

Price: $68.50

5. The Perfect Black and White Tank

New perfect-fit high-neck tank top

As women over 40, we often underestimate the elegance of a great-fitting tank. It’s sculpting and feminine and balances every loose bottom we care to wear. We wear ours under an open button down or linen blazer, but also on its own, because it flatters and frames our upper body really well. The fabric on this one holds us in and the straps cover our bra. What more could we want?

Price: $29.50

Perfect rib scoopneck tank top

The trifecta of the scoopneck, skinny straps, and ribbing on this tank are unmatched in terms of making our shoulders, chests, arms, and décolletage look their absolute bangingest.

Price: $22.50

6. The Marinière

Boyfriend jersey relaxed long-sleeve T-shirt in stripe

Every chic, French woman owns a marinière, a loose, striped, long-sleeve tee that somehow makes everything else we’re wearing look expensive and like it belongs on the Côte d'Azur. J.Crew makes this perfect version, a highlight being its sliiiiiiightly belled arm shape. We wear it with jeans, denim shorts, long linen pants, and it turns everything into a complete look.

Price: $55

7. The Most Flattering Swimsuit

Ruched V-neck one-piece

Our search for a flattering, supportive and still deeply alluring swimsuit ended when we found this one. The entire suit holds us in beautifully, and the ruching sculpts our belly pooch, so we look smoothed all over. With an open button down, the aforementioned HAT*, and THESE* sandals, we have our poolside uniform all set.

Price: $118
