When we stare into the smooth, glassy surface that is every face of every 22-year-old beauty influencer on Tik Tok, we feel two things.
Impressed.
Confused about what any of this has to do with us.

WHY: We’ve been standing by this formula for years, and our skin has only been getting older. Year after year, it’s still the best. Yes, it is a tint but the truth is we use it as foundation. It’s wildly smooth, never sinking into pores or lines, and with some kind of hyaluronic acid-driven sorcery it replenishes dry skin with moisture, balances combination skin, yet keeps shine away if you’re greasy. The glow you’re left with is, therefore, so natural and healthy-looking. It hits the exact note we always want from our foundation but are always left feeling let down and makeuppy. This feels like our skin but worlds and worlds better.

WHAT: CeraVe Hydrating Mineral Tinted Sunscreen with SPF 30
WHY: If you don’t love wearing makeup and just want a kiss of gorgeous coverage and a layer of SPF that leaves nothing but quenched, dewy skin behind, this is the one to reach for. We bulk buy it so we are never ever without it. It’s the perfect base for a “no makeup makeup” look where our skin is just more even and glass-like. We want to say, the finish is almost serum-like but without an ounce of oiliness. The dream!

WHAT: Jones Road Just Enough Tinted Moisturizer
WHY: Jones Road just seems to be turning out magic thing after magic thing. This tinted moisturizer feels like it’s made for those of us who notice that suddenly all makeup is making us look older, who feel like like a skin tint isn’t quite enough coverage for our pores and lines but a foundation is too much. The coverage is skin-like and sunkissed, and so easy to color match, which is the most maddening part of choosing any tint color. WHAT: Clinique Moisture Surge™ Sheertint Hydrator Broad Spectrum SPF 25
WHY: We pined after the bright yellow labels of Clinique when we were teenagers so we didn’t realize how incredible it would be for our 40+ skin. We feel plumped, hydrated, younger. The colors are so flexible and easy to match. Pick any shade you think is right, and you will be right. And it keeps quenching your skin so we feel replenished instead of dried out when we remove it.

WHAT: Supergoop! Protec(tint) Daily SPF Tint SPF 50 Sunscreen Skin Tint with Ectoin
WHY: We hate the feeling and finish of 99% of sunscreen, but every formula we use from Supergoop! feels like it came for some Wonka-esque SPF factory. It just absorbs instantly, and leaves our skin looking better. So we rushed to get their tint, and it did not disappoint. It light, natural, and buildable and also made with 83% skincare ingredients so we feel replenished instead of stripped. The best word we can think of is radiant when we use it, and it doesn’t settle into creases or wrinkles.

WHAT: Glossier Perfecting Skin Tint for Dewy Sheer Coverage
WHY: If you’re feeling skeptical at this very moment, because every tint/ foundation you’ve ever tried makes you feel like you have too much makeup on and you just want to feel like your bare skin is even and glowing and gorgeous, don’t lose faith, because this is the one you’re looking for. Nothing is more skin-like that doesn’t crease or sink or exacerbate fine lines and pores on mature skin. The finish feels unreal. We were astonished the first time we used it.
