The 9 Things We Bought This Summer And NONE Of Them Are Trendy

We of course want to look gorgeous at all times. This is a given. But we just can’t jump onto the trend-train. We’re too old and smart and we know trends disappear almost as quickly as they arrive. PLUS, most trends just don’t work for us and we feel dumb.
We like perennial classics—easy pieces that go with everything else we have. Lots of neutrals, clean lines, and most importantly, they must all be so comfortable we’d swear we were wearing pajamas.
And while this list is specifically what we wear in the summer, you’ll notice a verrrry common summer “staple” is not on this list:
We refuse.
So if you’re someone who has VERY specific requirements about how you like to dress, and you also aren’t jumping on any sort of skinny jean/low rise trend of the moment, here are the 9 pieces we’ve been “wearing on repeat” this season, as the fashion folks say.

1. The perfect summer skirt
What: Caslon Stripe Midi Skirt
Why we love it: There is something about this skirt. It is so thin, so breezy, you will feel instantly transported inside of any number of Nancy Meyers movies. And worn with the last thing on this list? Perfection.

2. The hat you’ll wear all the time

Why we love it: We…don’t have a lot of time to “do” our hair. Which means it’s often sort of limply air dried, and mostly certainly does NOT look like we just stepped out of a salon. And yet, we still want to look fully polished and put together. Enter: this hat. Throw it on over a low pony, double braids, a low bun. Instant chicness. And it comes in 4 colors. We want them all.

3.The pajamas you wont take off

Why we love it: Soft AND thin AND cute AND comfortable, there’s just something so crisp about a matching set of pajamas, isn’t there? The wide leg crop is perfection against the teeny, tiny, thin straps (which are the most flattering strap for a wide shoulder and bigger bust, in our opinion) and when you’re wearing them, you’ll basically feel nothing. Which is as pajamas should be.
This set comes in roughly 1.3 million styles and colors, and the sizing blessedly runs up to a 5X.

4. The “wearable tech” that changed our life
What: fitbit
Why we love it: Curveball, eh?! We’re not always down with the latest fitness gadget because we have found so many of them to be utterly useless. But this exact fitbit is so comfortable, so easy to use, so…dare we say, chic, that after wearing it only a week, we became the kind of person who walks 10k steps a day. And we are NOT that kind of person normally. Try it. It’s almost strange how immediately you’ll change.

5. The most flattering shirt of all time
What: Everlane The Way-Short Shirt
Why we love it: The length of this shirt is so endlessly wearable, and works as such a brilliant “outer” piece in warmer months when you don’t want to wear a jacket or a blazer but want to look slightly more put together. Look where it hits on the waist. So flattering, yes? Previously we could never do that oversized button-down “boyfriend” shirt thing without looking like a schlub.
But this is magic.

6. The body suit of dreams

Why we love it: We love this bodysuit so much we used it as the main image for this article.
And there’s just too many good things to say about it, we can’t fit it all in this tiny space. So THIS should cover it.

7. The best leggings we’ve ever worn
What: Beyond Yoga Spacedye Out Of Pocket High Waisted Midi Legging
Why we love it: We can’t tell you the exact reason why this material of these leggings is so mindblowingly soft, or why it feels like it holds you in perfectly without compressing you until you can’t breathe, or why the specific length of its high-waistedness is so unbelievably flattering.

Are they more expensive than the random, scratchy Amazon leggings we all think are such good deals that are sitting in our drawer right now, ignored and collecting dust? Yes. But they will be the only leggings we ever buy again.

8. The only swimsuit we’ll ever wear again
What: Andie Swim The Amalfi
Why we love it: Perfect fit. Flattering thin straps. Gloriously full coverage on the rump. Medium cut leg hits at juuuuust the right spot. Comes in ribbed which is insanely gorgeous especially if you’re self-conscious about your stomach. Comes in long torso. Sizing up to a 22.
We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again: this is the world’s best bathing suit.

9. The coastal grandma sandals
What: Caslon Aliyah Slingback Sandal
Why we love it: We are not being hyperbolic when we say these are the most comfortable sandals we’ve ever worn. Ever. Possibly the most comfortable SHOES we’ve ever worn.
So. Style-wise. Are they subtly giving “walking tour in Italy”? Slightly. But pair them with a maxi dress, jeans or flowy shorts, or some lovely, easy jumpsuit, and you’re a summertime vision.
