There’s something about the fall that makes us long for a moodier lip color. All of our nude summer lipsticks just start to feel sort of “meh” against the misty autumn air.

We’ve been looking for that sultry, not-too-brown, not-too red, not-too-purple color from the 90s since … well … the 90s.

You know the one we mean, yes?

But here’s the hard truth. Anytime we impulse buy one of the of rich, spellbinding lipstick shades served to us on TikTok at 10:42pm, we find that while they look stunning on the perfect pout of the 22 year-old model, they make us look like an ancient clown. And this has pretty much been the case since we turned 35.

What is it about a remotely dark in a lipstick shade that ages us 17 years!?

The bottom line is, we’ve been on the hunt for a just-bitten lip color for fall that doesn’t turn us into our own grandmother. And friends, we’ve found it.

It’s actually a combo lip liner and lipstick*, (though yes, the lipstick is berry-stained and beautiful on its own). It’s from a brand you’ve maybe never heard of called Soshe.

And it’s … well, it’s everything we’ve wanted all these years.

The color is described on the site as a dusty mauve, and mauve, when done right, is one of those “safe” shades for mature skin. Because it isn’t too red, it doesn’t bring out the reds in our skin or wash us out or bleed into fine lines or shrink our lips (all the things a red can sadly do).

Here it is on our 37-year-old, volunteer model, Heather:

Sidenote: Heather is also wearing Soshe’s pin-pointedly precise cream eyeliner, their wildly lengthening mascara*, and their cream-to-powder blush in rosy rest* which gives us our most flushed, glass skin.

But for now, let’s stay focused on the lips. What makes the Speakeasy liner and lipstick it so stunning on every age of human?

  1. It’s buildable. The depth of color is entirely in your control, and it looks just as good blotted as it does with all its soft yet rich pigment.

  2. The formula is hydrating and silky, full of ceramides that lock in moisture, so your lips look nourished and never the slightest bit shriveled or dry.

  3. It doesn’t bleed into fine lines. The formula is so blurring, it’s actually hard to mess up.

  4. The liner is creamy, blendable, and very beginner-friendly. It glides along the lipline, creating natural plump and a definition that makes them look extra juicy.

  5. They can be purchased as a set, and you can buy refills to save on packaging and cost when you purchase it over and over. We’re personally on our fourth set over here.

It’s worth noting that Soshe is not a brand that makes 257 different products, which inevitably means some of them will be misses, but rather they seem to put an incredible amount of thought into making the best version of a particular thing. And this agelessly flattering lip color is a peak example.

Also important to note, we’re not saying all this because we have any sort of sponsorship with Soshe. They sent a lip shade or two to our editorial dept. back in the day, but since then we buy all the refills of their Speakeasy lipstick and liner with our very own wages.

That said, we are extremely motivated to get YOU to buy this lip set because we want to ensure that Soshe never stops making it and that WE never have to kiss our dreams of an eternal, 90s rom-com lip goodbye again.

Bisous 💋💋💋
