And all that really means is more lines, deeper pores, more texture, frequent discoloration, and softer (aka less tight) skin. Because of that, we require creamier, more blendable formulas that don’t exacerbate these issues. We want our makeup to make us look like ourselves, only much better. More vital. Healthy. Sun-kissed. But NOT like we’re wearing a bunch of makeup. Because wearing too much, my friends, is why we LOOK OLDER IN MAKEUP.
Enter this whimsical little brand called Winky Lux. Don’t worry if you haven’t heard of it. Neither had we.
It’s deeply affordable, available at places like Ulta an Target, formulated without ingredients like parabens, phthalates, or harmful sulfates. And friends, it is a DREAM on mature skin.
Don’t get us wrong. Everything that makes it a dream on mature skin will do the same for youthful skin. But where young skin can afford heavier, bolder, and more powdery finishes, over-40 skin cannot. So we become intolerably particular about what we use on our face.
And so, here are the 5 products from Winky Lux that passed our rigorous test with flying colors.
1. Cheeky Rose® Liquid Blush
Cream blushes are a friend to mature texture. This gel-cream formula melts into the skin, blending so seamlessly, you never have to worry about patchiness or streaks.
This exact Rose Reverie* shade actually has warm mauve undertones, and colors with mauve tones are actually how you achieve that “no makeup makeup,” flushed from within look.
The sponge applicator allows you to dab, dab, dab the product right where it should be (only on the highest third of the cheekbones if you’re over 35) then blend it out, which we do with THIS*.
Oh and it actually has skincare ingredients like plumping hyaluronic acid and soothing calendula oil and evening primrose extract, so it does work while looking gorj.

2. Barely There Sheer Tinted Lip Oil
Lips lose collagen and form lines as we age, so a lip oil with this many nourishing ingredients is like a holy grail to have on hand. This one has vit E, jojoba oil, avocoado oil, grapeseed oil, and olive oil, all protecting your pout. More importantly, the shade Rose Reverie* gives you that exact right flush of slightly mauve, “your lips but better” color and lots of shine. And it’s NOT sticky. Huge!

3. Very There Lip Oil
This lip oil has all the same lip-care ingredients as the one above but with a glossier finish and a bit more pigment to the color (which we do like in the fall/winter especially). We switch to this one-and-done gloss in the shade Muse* for the perfect your-lips-but-better nude and the just bitten shade, Enchanted*, for an evening out or days when we need a hit of lip-induced seratonin.

4. Cheeky Rose® Liquid Sculpt
If you have been too scared to contour, consider this your new best friend. This formua is both a bronzer and a contour, and it’s practically impossible to mess up. Again, it melts into the skin in the most natural way. And again, that sponge/tap applicator makes everything so easy. We dab the shade Amalfi from our upper, upper cheekbone round our temples and the upper part of our forehead, then on each side of our nose, and just below the chin, after which blend it out with THIS*, and we look like we just came home from a summer in Greece, no orangey hue, no streaky brown, no glitter. Just a golden flush of color.
