Is anything more emblematic of autumn than The Gilmore Girls?

But the image that pops into our head even more than a maple leaf-splattered Stars Hollow is a cable-knit clad Rory Gilmore who, in the pilot episode, foreshadowed 7 seasons of the cozy, preppy, academic-chic, small-town New England aesthetic we’d come to love by wearing this sweater:
Granted, we wanted many things from Rory’s closet, which tended to be a little more classic than her mom’s still cute but much trendier early 2000s style. The plaid skirts. The fitted turtlenecks*. The tall boots*. The collared twofer sweaters*.
Yet there is nothing we longed for more than this gloriously capacious crewneck sweater. And because we don’t “need directions to get to the point,” (as Emily Gilmore would say), we’ll just come out and tell you we have found THE sweater*.

We could tell you of its warmth and softness (it’s made of luxurious 100% extra-fine merino wool). We could describe to you its blatant gorgeousness (the pattern drawn from traditional Irish cable-knits). But what’s really special is its scale. The sleeve pours off the shoulder. The length means we can wear it long like Rory’s or slouchily half tuck it like so:
It’s the curl up with an engrossing book and cup of coffee sweater.
It’s the wear out with $10 leggings and fuzzy boots and look impossibly chic sweater.
It’s the layer over a button-down and trousers and pretend you’re Katharine Hepburn sweater.
What else can we say? It’s the right shape, color, size, quality. Oh and it happens to be on sale at this very moment.
If that’s not a bit of Gilmorian magic, we don’t know what is.
