We’re old enough to remember when “house clothes” were just stiff, tailored dresses we changed into from other stiff, tailored dresses we’d worn outside.
Ok fine, no, we’re not.
But we’re old enough to remember seeing it on TV and consequently feeling very lucky that we grew up in tandem with sweats becoming an acceptable thing to wear outside the gym. You know, as opposed to things like this?

But what’s happened in the past handful of years is even better. We’ve come full circle, to where comfort and style can live in harmony. Lounge clothes are neither the starchy frocks with cinched waists to entice our husbands nor the sad sacks that scream to the world we’ve given up.
And all of this is due to a little something called “the set.”
A set allows us to do our most favorite thing, which is to be unapologetically cozy. But we still get to look cute, put-together, “dressed.”
Yet, as with anything that comes on scene in abundance, sooooo many of them are bad. Scratchy instead of soft. Pilling after a wash or two. Thin. Ill-fitting. Cheaply made. And often unflattering.
So…we went on a mission, and that was to parse out our absolute favorite sets. The ones that feel like we’re being cradled by a cloud but that also give us the confidence to know we look good while we go about our standard/ superhero days.

1. The Favorite Set (That’s Insanely On Sale)
We must start by saying “RIP Tkees clothing,” which is responsible for the set you saw on J. Lo above and which happens to be our favorite set of all. Is this not the quintessential sweatsuit we want to be buried in? Forget that it comes in a dozen perfect colors, the fabric is what we’re fussing about: brushed, plush, weighted. It's draped and spacious without being too thick or bulky. It’s made from organic and recycled cottons and cotton blends and for some reason we don’t fully understand but still really like, it’s treated with peppermint oil. This supposedly makes it stay fresh, but all we care about is that the people behind this sweatsuit treated making a literal sweatsuit like an art, and we reap the benefits each time we wear it. Which is a lot. Like a lot, a lot.

If your dream is to live in luxurious cashmere until spring without spending your entire quarterly budget on said cashmere, we have the brand for you. Quince is doing incredible things with knitwear for prices that don’t make us weep. These cashmere joggers are buttery soft, and with the ribbed fisherman crew, we’re just about ready to retire to an armchair with a creamy tea and 7 shortbread biscuits and call it a day…or you know, a year.

4. The Wear-Outside-The-House Set

Simply switching the shape of our loungewear to a wide-leg pant and a polo means we get to still be the lazy slobs we hold inside but also look chic when we’re out in the actual human world. Spanx’s AirEssentials line is insanely popular, because the fabric has this very flattering and comfy stretch that’s light and breathable but looks sort of structured. So we give off a crisp, “Clean Girl” approach to athleisure when we wear it. It sizes up to 3X and comes in tall and petite. And we must say, the color selection is very, very desirable.

We see this set worn domestically, by the sort of person who lights 14 candles before setting down the perfect roast chicken. And all we can say is every single one them looks wildly good in it. And you will, too.

This set has the roominess we’re always wanting to shroud ourselves in, but the sliiiightly cropped shape of the sweatshirt paired with the high-waist of the pants gives us some actual shape. Slouchy-chic we think it should be called. Point is we feel buried away, but also flattered, and sorta sporty - the sweatsuit trifecta. Plus, they size up to XXL and come in a flurry of colors, 3 of which are in our cart as we speak.

We appreciate that this particular set is not only the softest knit but the pant is just a little fitted and the sweater is just a little chic, so once again, we can get away with wearing it to the mall without getting any looks like we left the house in our PJs. We will, however, have to withstand all the questions about where we got it. And hey, it was right there at the mall.
