Stop Wearing This Length Of Skirt. It's Making You Look Frumpy. Wear This Instead.

We wear skirts to look long and graceful. But somehow most of us (all of us?) seem to choose skirts that are sort of neither here nor there, and we all ending up looking like this:
We all have these skirts. They hit us at the middle of the calf and we just look frumpy. And so, what we thought was a cute skirt that made us look feminine and pretty is actually chopping our legs off at the worst possible place and ruining what could have been an outfit. But most of us hate our legs (or at least our knees) and we have a belly and a bum, so other skirt shapes don't even occur to us.
Now, don't be mad, but we are urgently asking you to consider a new shape. Because it is gorgeous on curves, it is outfit-making even in its simplicity, and if you find the right one, lumps and bumps from belly and bum are a thing of the past.
Enter the pencil skirt:

A good pencil skirt has stretchy and supportive fabric that smooths all our curves, has a high waist that makes our legs look longer, and creates that smoldering, hourglass silhouette we all want. Naturally, we have a few favorites. And here they are:
1. The Best
WHAT: Marcella Vesey Pencil Skirt*
It covers the knees if you (like us) never want to expose. And with a tall boot like THIS* or THIS* (our two favorite boot finds this season that are more affordable and INSANELY comfortable), you’re actually quite covered up, except you’ve created a sexy shape and extremely stylish outfit. It also has no slit so you don't have to feel compelled to wear tights and/or shave your legs above the knee because we’re perimenopausal and can't be bothered. There’s enough weight to the material to smooth our hips/butt/thighs, and the extra thick waistband is amazing on the belly. The size range also goes from XS to XXXL.
Price: $89
2. The Steal
WHAT: Quince Ultra-Stretch Ponte Pencil Skirt*
What ultra-stretch ponte really means is you won’t need to lug out the steamer every time you want to wear this skirt. It’s wrinkle-resistant and rife with stretch. This one does show a bit of knee, so it’s for those of us who want something a little shorter that still makes us feel covered up. But both the fit and the price are excellent.
Price: $39
3. The Suede
WHAT: J.Crew Factory Sueded Midi Skirt*
Okay, it’s faux suede, which is why the price is amazing. But you truly cannot tell, it’s so soft and a rich camel color that makes it great for fall. The material gives a bit more structure so you really and truly cannot see a single lump or bump. AND it’s not too tight! We wear it often as more of a dress-up option. Even with just a t-shirt and boots, we feel fancy.
Price: $82.50
Bonus: The Maxi
WHAT: Soldout.NYC The Perfect Skirt*
If a knee-length pencil is still too scary because of leg exposure, consider the maxi version. It's another way to fully flatter the figure because it doesn't cut us off in a weird place, so it makes our legs look longer and every outfit look incredibly sophisticated.
Here’s one of us wearing this incredibly flattering maxi that holds us in all over without feeling constricting:
