This Foundation Brush Will Give You Glass Skin

WHAT: Tarte The Buffer™ Airbrush Finish Foundation Brush

WHY: In a cruel twist, as if finding a foundation color isn’t hard enough, we also have to wonder HOW to apply it.

Fingers?

Sponge?

Dense brush?

Non dense brush?

Duo fiber brush, whatever that is?

Well. It’s a red letter day, friends.

We have discovered the only foundation brush we are using today, tomorrow, forever.

It’s called the The Buffer™ Airbrush Finish Foundation Brush by Tarte:

It is so aptly named, because it indeed makes your skin looks fully airbrushed, almost regardless of the foundation you use. The massive, fluffy dome shape means that if you swirl in big circles all over your face, the product becomes almost buffed onto the face, creating a glass-skin effect. It’s visible almost instantly and it’s like, astonishing.

And, if you want this glass skin thing to the next level, try this trick we learned from Katie Jane Hughes (makeup artist extraordinaire) which is “priming the brush.” Half of you will hate this—we actually hated it at first—but the results are undeniably soft and fresh, and your skin looks utterly perfect, and not at all makeupy.

Ok, so here’s the trick.

You squeeze some foundation out onto your hand or a “palette” (we know, who has this, no one, but it’s almost worth getting THIS to do this trick) and then you swirl your brush on the product until it’s all soaked into the bristles. From there, you swirl, swirl, swirl onto your face in circular motions. And because the product is in the brush and not on your face, you’re not just moving it around, you’re really huddling it into the skin which creates that totally undetectable, airbrush finish. We’ve gotten hooked on this method now, and we use it with every foundation we own—even our thicker, full-coverage formulas that we had previously rejected since turning 40. Even those just look soft, totally unmakeupy, and like we have utterly perfect skin.

Also!

This brush is SHORT! Which is all we want from brushes. Yes, because they fit better into our makeup bags, but also because long handles make us feel clumsy and we don’t understand why they’re so long. This stubby, bamboo handle means we get a good grip and have a better handle on really buffing products into the skin.

And for the record, THIS has been our go-to foundation choice with this brush, and it is, unequivocally, glass skin perfection. Especially with the warmer months upon us.

The only problem is that we want to use this brush with all our products, so we had to buy another one for our cream bronzers and blushes, and yet another for our finishing powder. It works for everything.

But for the pretty reasonable price, it’s worth it.

Price: $36
