We promise we’re not just being sentimental. We’re not even a bit bewitched by the early 2000s low-rise flare jeans and babydoll tops we’re seeing on girls whose age we were in the early 2000s.
But there is definitely something about 90s fashion that is just so … eternal.
It was always grounded in something classic (think Carolyn Bessette Kennedy) but had such an air of “cool girl” (think Liv Tyler in an Aerosmith vid).
We’ve recently been turning to the 90s for outfit template ideas, and there are 3 specific ones that are so universally good we knew we had to share.
All are mindlessly easy, and all it took to recreate them was one (virtual) trip to Nordstrom.

1. The perfect blazer and jeans combo
Why it works:
It’s just so “cool girl,” so effortless and understated. Julia Roberts herself has worn a version of this outfit every decade of her real life as well as onscreen (see HERE for proof). The trick is keeping each element very classic and choosing pieces with a spectacular fit. Which we did … just for you (and us).
What you need:
This Blissfully Stretchy Blazer*: We normally feel so tight in blazers, but this one is like wearing sweatpants.
The Classic 90s Straight Jeans*: Madewell’s version of these curve-complementing jeans are better than designer.
Our Favorite Black Belt*: The belt is what turns this into a “look.” This is perhaps the only black belt you need.

2. The black on black
Why it works:
We recently asked what color do we wear with black pants to look chic instead of corporate? The answer, of course, was black. Black on black on black is eternally chic, and this silhouette though rooted in something so 90s is very timeless. It’s also a way to wear something fitted and sleek that isn’t intimidating - something about the leather skirt with a simple tank just makes it smoothing and slimming. It’s minimalist and elegant but the mixed high and low materials make it edgy.
What you need:
The Leather Skirt*: We really recommend investing in one perfect, genuine leather skirt* to create looks like this one, but THIS* faux leather version is (almost) just as good.

The Comfiest Sexy Heels On The Planet*: Don’t spend $500 on heels. These are wilsly gorgeous but somehow the comfiest, cushiest heels we own. We’re not joking. We forget we’re in heels.

3. The fitted shirt and baggy pants
Why it works:
This look is all about proportions. Whether you’re pear-shaped, apple-shaped, or straight as an arrow, you’ll look more hourglassy by pairing a fitted top with a baggier bottom. It’s a look as classic as Rachel Green herself and unbelievably easy to achieve if you snatch up the right staples.
What you need:
