I do a date night with my husband every week—rain or shine. We both have demanding jobs, but we sat down and discussed the logistics of how to make this work so that it wasn’t the very last thing on our priority list each week. It meant I agreed to him working very late into the evening on 2-3 other nights of the week (without sending him 6-18 texts asking if/when he’s coming home for dinner) and we also figured out one day of the week where we could do a breakfast together.
And so I thought I’d take you along, real time, of what I wear to all of them. Because while I’m an absolute house pig day-to-day, I think dressing up for dates is a cute way to show him I care. I certainly like him to show me HE cares by anticipating the paper towel holder be replenished near-instantly with a fresh roll the millisecond the last sheet is torn from its tube, so the least I can do is try to look nominally sexy for him once a week. BUT I DRAW THE LINE AT ONCE!
For our maiden flight of the series, I chose this librarian-chic situation, but mostly because all the pieces feel like I’m wearing pajamas. And looking cute and dressed up while also FEELING like I’m still in house clothes is my deepest love language.

1. The capped sleeve shirt

I’m doing arm exposure therapy because I hate my arms, and for some reason, this cap placement is perfection. Also you simple MUST feel this material. And what a price!

2. The insanely flattering plaid maxi

This might be the most elongating, leg-lengthening skirt I have ever put on my body. I am 5’6” and have extremely stumpy legs and I feel positively LITHE in this skirt. And the flat waistband has stretch but it doesn’t show the bunch elastic which is my personal dream waist on clothing. Also very affordable!

3. The suede bag
WHAT: Haven Well Within Suede Slouchy V Tote*
I do love this kind of slouchy suede bag—it goes with everything, and for some reason this is the correct shade of brown for suede. And I love that it’s so deeply quiet luxury, though perhaps dipping a toe into ludicrously capacious? And at time of writing I just discovered it’s 30% off!
