These Shoes Changed Our Lives

WHY: We all have the image from The Devil Wears Prada imprinted in our brains of a skittering Runway employee rushing to her desk to change her clogs into stilettos upon the arrival of Miranda Priestly.
Is that not the struggle we all face each day when it comes to our shoes?
We can’t tell you how many extremely cute, carefully thought-out outfits we put on, then after pattering barefoot to the door, we ruin it all with the shoe.
Shoes are supposed to be the icing on the cake - the thing that makes everything else swirl itself into a complete, layered look. But the trouble is the shoes we own that do all of this are usually the most wretched to wear. They make our feet squeeze, ache, and blister, so 97% of the time, we won’t realistically go near them.
We own a lot of shoes we love but what we’ve really longed for is a pair that well … pretty much looks good with everything.

That’s right. We found one. And incidentally, it is the most comfortable, breathable, foot-pampering shoe we own.
It’s called The Margo Mary Jane, and it’s from Vivaia, a brand known for making celebrity-loved, surreally comfy shoes, most notably flats. We’ve written before about their classic, pointed-toe ballet flat. But they’re Mary Jane takes everything to new stylistic heights.

We use red to give a pop to all our neutral, “clean girl” looks such as the above plain white tee and jeans. We use the cap-toe to recreate all the gorgeous ballet flat looks of Coco Chanel, often by just adding them to an all-black outfit.

Now, there are a lot of reasons why we choose this Mary Jane over any other brand’s on a daily basis, though if we’re being honest, it mostly boils down to these two truths:
They feel like light, stretchy, supportive clouds.
They’re French lady chic.
That said, here’s a quick rundown of their key attributes:
They’re machine washable. You don’t realize how fun this is until you scuff your shoe with some mystery substance on the sidewalk.
They’re made from recycled materials. You wouldn’t know from how they look, but it’s true.
They’re breathable in a way that makes you never feel suffocated or like you have to take them off.
They have herbal insoles containing something called “Natural Artemisia Argyi” which is supposed to help soothe your feet. If you have a big, long walking trip planned somewhere, these are what you’ll want to pack.
They work with every length of jeans - e v e r y length. Let that sink in.
But the real gold is that you can choose any color, and the shoe will turn your clothes into a chic and complete look. It’s bit of trickery that we couldn’t appreciate more as people who WANT to look our best but don’t really have the time, energy , or interest to spend copious hours in front of a mirror trying on shoe after shoe until the bedroom is a hovel and we run out the door just as dissatisfied as when we started.
