The 17 Things We Bought This Spring And NONE Of Them Are Trendy

by The Candidly Team

We’re not sure if it’s the rejuvenating spirit of spring or the fact that we’ve been wearing some version of daytime pajamas for the better part of the year, but we’re sort of feeling the urge to dress nicely these days.

And yet, a mere scroll through this breezy list of things we bought this spring will reveal two things:

  1. We stayed true to form in choosing timeless, “non-trendy” pieces that we’ll be wearing for years to come.

  2. Everything we chose is either flowy or stretchy or blissfully soft. So yes, we’re dressing “nicely” in things like skirts and dresses (even heels!), but we still feel like we’re in jammies. It’s life’s ultimate hack.

That said, we’re very pleased to present the 17 things we’ll be wearing to every picnic, brunch, stroll through the park, lingering afternoon tea, but also, every roadtrip, flight, and frantic commute. They’re all that effortless…and comfy…and lovely.

And so, away we go:

1. This Effortless And Exceptionally Flattering Maxi Dress

What: Marcella Clara Dress

Why: We’re not just being flowery here. This might honestly be the single most flattering dress on this earth. You can hear us sing its countless praises and see us try it on HERE. The stunning fit is only matched by its comfort, as if your favorite stretchy tank made friends with the floatiest of maxi skirts. Pure heaven from top to bottom.

Price: $108

2. This Better-Than-A-Hoop earring

What: Gorjana Parker Huggies

Why: We love that the slightly dipped shape of this earring lands it somewhere just between a huggie and a hoop. So subtle and chic while still feeling like they make our whole look more interesting.

Price: $50

3. These Lightweight Linen Pants That Fit Like a Dream

What: J. Crew New Seaside Pant In Linen Blend

Why: Such a nice simple linen pant which is the ideal fabric for spring. The elastic waist and superbly cut straight-leg make them wildly flattering on everyone. And the colors! The black with that sweater tank is basically how we want to look always. They size up to 3X. And being on J. Crew, they’re pretty much always on sale.

Price: $98

4. This Unbelievably Soft Column Skirt

What: Cozy Earth Women's Modern Modal Midi Skirt

Why: Cozy Earth has worked some kind of wizardry in having created the softest, silkiest, most leisurely material that’s ever graced our skin. We’ve long loved their joggers and loungewear, so when they presented a skirt that’s chic, pocketed, lovely on curves, and feels like we’re wearing sweatpants, we couldn’t add to cart fast enough. And you can get 35% off using our exclusive code CANDIDLY.

Price: $150

5. these Chic and blessédly Cushioned Budget Sandals

What: A New Day Lulu Slide Sandals

Why: I mean just look at them. Perfect shape. Perfect shade (though they come in many). Our feet stretch in comfort just looking at those cushioned soles. They work with every daytime dress and pair of shorts we own. And then, of course, the price.

Price: $20

6. These Shorts We Actually Enjoy Wearing

What: Everlane The A-Line Denim Short

Why: Shorts can be one of those things we try to make work but eventually after one too many tight, restricting or weirdly long and shapeless tries later, we just give up on them altogether. We’ve spent long hours seeking out shorts that strike a sweet, spacious, yet flattering balance (we found 17). These shorts are among our favorites, because they pair roominess with structure, have a slimming high waist, and hit at a perfect, middle-ground length.

Price: $68

7. The Most Perfect Flats You’ll Ever Own

What: M. Gemi The Esatto Flat

Why: Ok, this is more than we’d usually spend on a flat (or any shoe to be honest), but when we encounter perfection, sometimes we decide to invest. These particular shoes are thoroughly worth it! And here’s why. They’re unequivocally the chicest most comfortable flats we’ve ever encountered. They’re the ideal graceful shape but actually have a very subtle hidden wedge (can you see it?) for maximum support. Brilliance! M. Gemi was founded by an Italian woman who wanted to bring the masterful craftsmanship of Italian artisans to every shoe she made. The quality and detail are deeply unmatched. And frankly, these shoes wind up saving us 10x what they cost when we stop buying pair after pair of cheap plastic flats that fall apart after a month.

Price: $248

8. This Shirt We Wear When We Want To Feel French

What: J. Crew Classic-fit Boatneck Top In Stripe

Why: When we aren’t prowling for irresistible “French pharmacy” beauty finds, we tap into our inner Parisian by wearing this heavenly soft striped boatneck tee. It’s one of a list of items we’ve discovered are essential to a classic French woman’s closet. The sleeve length is so flattering, and it sizes up to 3X. We wear it tucked into our dreamiest wide leg pants, and if we’re feeling especially French, we tie a silk scarf (see #16) to our hair or our handbag and immediately feel like the most sophisticated version of ourselves.

Price: $50

9. This Essential Shirt Dress

What: J. Crew Relaxed-Fit Short-Sleeve Baird McNutt Irish Linen Shirtdress

Why: This is one of those pieces you don’t even have to think about because of its combination of ease, comfort, and that foolproof, flattering fit. This dress reminds us of when we all collectively gasped/died when we first laid eyes on all the clothes worn by Rachel McAdams in Midnight In Paris. Throw it on with any belt to cinch the waist and your comfiest sandals, and you are understated spring chicness itself. I mean…

10. This Joy-Sparking Raffia Bucket Bag

What: Sézane Mini Farrow Bag

Why: There is something about this petite bucket bag that’s so romantic, we feel like we’re strolling through a coastal town in Italy every time we toss it over our shoulder. Sézane bags are made to last, so the fact that this one is under $200 and will remain chic for countless springs to come is especially satisfying.

Price: $160

11. The Flowy, Cloud Soft Wrap Dress

What: Quince Tencel Jersey Midi Wrap Dress

Why: We know dresses can seem occasion-y, but in fact, they’re an entire outfit without having to think about it, which makes them an easy choice on any given day. Especially this one with its buttery soft jersey and beyond flattering wrap waist. It’s perfect for spring weather, especially when you’re not in love with going sleeveless. And the v-cut down the front looks gorj on everyone.

Price: $60

12. These Comfiest Espadrilles In Existence

What: J. Crew Seville Espadrille Wedges In Canvas

Why: There’s something about this shoe that channels the classic sensibility of Audrey Hepburn on vacation but still manages to be perfectly contemporary. Plus, the wedge makes them incredibly comfy to walk in, preferably along the coast of Italy, but also to your local park on a weekend.

Price: $128

13. The Flowy Skirt We’ve Been Looking For Our Entire Adult Lives

What: Cuyana Silk Belted Midi Skirt

Why: This skirt definitely falls into a more splurgey category, but that just proves how much it had to prove in order to make this list. The thing is, this skirt is special. It’s soooo smartly constructed to flatter in every way imaginable. Its bouncy silk has just the right amount of “air” and movement. The slit is stunning. The waist is nipping and blissfully high and thick. And the tie just tips it all over the edge. This is the skirt you buy once and never have to buy another like it again. Because you now own the best.

Price: $268

14. This Life-Altering Swimsuit For Curves

What: Andie Swim The Amalfi

Why: When we first tried on The Amalfi swimsuit, we felt an almost emotional relief that only comes when we find a style thing we’ve been looking for our entire adult lives. In fact, our Editor-in-Chief wrote a whole tribute to this suit (with try-on photos) HERE. The short version is, it doesn’t pinch or pull or ride up our bottoms. It smoothly hugs our curves, doesn’t cut in at our hips, and comes in a long torso (thank the lord!) We’re feeling this subtle spring print, but also love it in its solid and ribbed styles.

Price: $68 - $128

15. The Prettiest Light and Easy Spring Skirt

What: J. Crew Gwyneth Slip Skirt In Linen

Why: Possibly the most perfect spring skirt in existence, it features an elastic waist so while it LOOKS like a form-fitting zip, it secretly feels like you’re wearing your schlubby sweatpants. That’s right. This is the LINEN SKIRT version of sweatpants. We love the French blue, but you really must see the pink. Word to the wise—it runs large so add to cart accordingly.

Price: $118

16. These Prettiest Of Printed Silk Scarves

What: Lost Pattern “Tulip” Silk Bandana

Why: It hurt us to pick just one pattern from this unbelievable collection of scarves to show you. So please just go and marvel at all their gorgeous patterns HERE.

Price: $68

17. These Elegant and Breathable Sneaks That happen To Be Sustainable

What: Thousand Fell Women’s Lace Up Starstruck

Why: Perhaps the most underrated of shoes is a graceful, lightweight sneaker that feels like a cloud but still looks chic with all our jeans, skirts, shorts, even dresses. We love the subtlety of this sneak with the hint of color round the back (and there are many to choose from). Plus, the fact that they are the first of their kind to be 100% recyclable helps us justify getting more than one pair.

Price: $145
