If we had to pick one word to describe our style, it might just be “classic.” We generally lean toward a more timeless, chic, and untrendy aesthetic like that of Jennifer Aniston and Carolyn Bessette Kennedy.

HOWEVER…

That doesn’t mean we don’t like to have fun. All it means is that when we reach for something a little bolder or riskier, we do it very, very selectively.

And so, today we share the 9 boldest things we bought of late. We love them all. They fit perfectly. We feel more interesting when we wear them. They spark endless amounts of joy AND actually help us dress better.

So let’s get to them:

1. These Gloriously Wide Leg Palazzo Pants

WHAT: By Anthropologie Tailored Palazzo Pants*

Why We Love It: A great pair of palazzo pants gives us the hourglass we always wanted with zero effort on our end. Pull them on and our waist looks nipped, hips look skimmed, and legs look lengthened. These pants also just make every outfit look more like an outfit. Even with just a comfy t-shirt*, we look completely styled.

Wear it with: THIS* or your own existing tucked white tee. It’s also great with more fitted, ribbed tops* or a tucked button-down to take full advantage of that hourglass.

Price: $148

2. These Bright Red Shoes

WHAT: Vivaia Margot Square-Toe Mary Janes*

Why We Love It: A pop of red is chic, exciting, and a very lazy way of making our otherwise boring, neutral outfits sing. These shoes feel like cushioned, breathable heaven to wear - akin to slippers. But they make all our clothes 4x more exciting.

Wear it with: Jeans and white tees or button-downs. Black and white dresses and midi skirts. They’re also very cute with a blue and white striped or checkered skirt.

Price: $139

3. These Bow-Shaped Leisure Pants That Keep Being Advertised To You

WHAT: Ruti The On The Loose Work Pants*

Why We Love It: We kept having these pants served to us by some Instagram algorithm that knows we are weak in the face of very comfy, very flattering, black pants. The brand then offered to send us a pair to try, and well, the rest of us then went out and bought our own. The comfort is no joke - think weightless, flexible, soft, and leisurely - but then they’re also the kind of rare pants that make our legs look longer and skinnier. It’s a bit of magic. And it better be because they’re not cheap. But because we reach for them more than any pants in our closet, we already have the cost per wear down to cents.

Oh and here they are from the side, modeled by our Editor-in-Chief, Audie, when she went to the physical storefront (they still exist!) to buy hers.

Wear it with: Tees, tanks, and flips on weekends and with button-downs and loafers* to work.

Price: $249

4. These Chunky Slides

WHAT: M.Gemi The Matilde Due*

Why We Love It: Listen, these shoes are buttery leather and made in Italy by an iconic shoe brand, so we doubt they’ll be much hate to go around here. But the fact is that they are chunky, and because of that chunkiness, they also happen to be the shoes that work with every single bottom: every length of jeans, every shape of skirt, every dress, every jogger, every short, every sweatpant, culotte, Bermuda short … you get the idea. They’re also very cushioned and supportive so we end up choosing them over every other shoe we own most days. That’s why you’ll see us wearing them in many of our shopping hauls like THIS ONE and THIS ONE.

Wear it with: Every length of pant. It balances out both fitted and baggy things.

Price: $298

5. This Plaid Maxi Skirt Your Gran Would Love

WHAT: By Anthropologie Seamed Plaid Wrap Maxi Skirt*

Why We Love It: We recently realized that plaid is very timeless and chic. It’s like stripes’ livelier, more outgoing sister. We’re already known to appreciate the grand, put-togetherness of a maxi skirt, so this skirt was a shoo-in. Straight to the closet to be worn 57 times this summer.

Wear it with: THIS tucked tee* (a spot-on dupe for the one in the above photo) or THIS $19 ribbed tank in half the colors it comes in. And yes, those are the same shoes* from above.

Price: $158

6. These Divisive Linen Pants

WHAT: Theory High-Waist Wide-Leg Pant in Good Linen*

Why We Love It: The only reason to be mad at these pants is the price, becase frankly, the fit is perfect. They fall so smoothly with zero pocket poof so you look long and slimmed. We benefit by investing in that one superior pair of well-tailored linen pants instead of 12 cheap versions that fall apart after a year.

They also come in a cropped version*:

Wear it with: Every top. Absolutely every single one. These are those pants that make every look better.

Price: $244

7. This Striped Linen Set

WHAT: Faherty Sun Strider Linen Milo Vest* and Pleated Short*

Why We Love It: A set means we don’t have to put any thought into our clothes and will still look completely styled. And when it’s hot out, it’s extra hard to style our clothes, so this set is a real godsend. It’s linen and light but also sort of dressy so unlike with a lot of summer sets, it doesn’t feel like it could only work for the beach.

One note: It runs a bit tight round the bust so it’s great for smaller-chested ladies. Otherwise size up. It’s worth it for how flatteringly it holds everything else in.

Wear it with: Very understated nude sandals. This set is doing all the work.

Price: $148 for the vest, $128 for the shorts

8. This Sheer Statement Top

WHAT: Rachel Antonoff Fleming Shirt*

Why We Love It: A lot of times when we dress up to go out, we end up in nice pants and nice black tops and nice formal jackets and we kind of feel like we could just be going to the office. Having a statement going-out top makes life easier, more playful, and, on occasion, a bit sexier. We love Rachel Antonoff for being artful and off the walls in her designs, and we wear this top anytime we hope to have just a little more fun.

Wear it with: We like it over an extra long, black bralette* so there’s a sliver of skin showing before our high-waist pants begin. We choose either long blue jeans or “fancy black jeans*” like the ones shown and wear it untucked cause we’re lazy, and it still looks good.

Price: $209

9. These Airy Pink Pants

WHAT: Maeve Poplin Genie Pants*

Why We Love It: These are one of four pairs of pants our EIC wrote about because they’re marvelous on all the curves that exist south of our waistlines. They feel like pajamas but that pale pink and tailored shape make them stylish. The waist is smooth in front but elastic in the back so they look smart and work just as well as going-out pants as lounge-by-the-pool pants.

Wear it with: We love it with a sculpting tank* or bodysuit to balance out the bagginess and a cropped jean jacket*, which creates the perfect proportions. Boots dress it up. Slides and flips dress it down.
