Look, it’s not that we don’t love jeans. On some days. We’ve even spent real, long, working hours researching which ones look and feel the best on our over-40 butts bodies.
However…
We also hate jeans. Too many of them are not soft enough. Not stretchy enough. Not sweat-pant-like enough. On days we feel full or bloated or just unwilling to wear anything any less comfy than house clothes, jeans just won’t do.
But, of course, we still want the casual coolness of jeans. The pants that look really good on us and match every top we own. And so, we went out and gathered our favorite alternates to jeans.
They’re all comfortable and malleable and very flattering. And here they are:

Why we love them: Pretty much any day we won’t do denim, we reach for these pants. If you come here often, you’ve already heard us go on and on about their magic material that smooths and holds you in while also being stretchy and breathable and supremely comfortable. But the full-length version is our favorite everyday pant for fall/ winter. They come in many great colors in addition to black and size in tall, petite, and plus.

WHAT: The Colette Corduroy Full-Length Wide-Leg Pants by Maeve*
Why We Love Them: Yes, these are the same pants in corduroy, which makes them just a bit more 70s and autumnal - like something our favorite character in our favorite fall rom-com would wear to the park, perhaps with one of THESE. Again, the color selection is *chef’s kiss.*

3. The Essential Everyday Fall Pant
WHAT: Madewell The Slim Straight Utility Pant*
Why we love them: We wrote a whole article about these pants when we tried them on because on the website they really don’t look like much, but on our bodies, they are something else entirely. The shape is so sleekly accommodating of all our curves. They are extremely flattering, but with a soft, stretchy cotton twill. They can be styled 172 ways and truly feel like the pants we had been missing all our adult lives.

4. The "Clean Girl" Pants That Look Like Denim And Feel Like Sweats
WHAT: Z Supply Hunter Knit Denim Pant*
Why we love them: A knit pant that’s cut like a long denim trouser is the kind of thing we like to live in. The shape somehow makes our legs look longer and leaner. We wear it as a set with the matching soft knit “denim” jacket as seen here:
But we also wear it with white tees and cosy sweaters, for a loungey look that’s cute enough to wear out.

5. The Tailored Trousers
WHAT: The Avery Wide-Leg Pleated Trousers by Maeve*
Why we love them: Again, we write about these pants A LOT a lot. Even though they’re wide-leg, they drape and pleat in a way that makes us look longer and lither when we wear them. The back is elastic so our waist looks nipped, but there’s zero tightness or restriction. Everything about them makes them appear like very expensive, personally tailored pants, but they genuinely feel like PJs. We dress them up with comfy heels to go out to dinner and dress them down with sneaks on the weekend.

6. The Spacious Yet Flattering Ankle Pants You Want To Reach For Everyday
WHAT: Everlane The Everywhere Pant*
Why we love them: The shape of these cropped trousers flatters the curves we have and creates curves where we don’t. They’re high-waisted which is great for apple shapes and the barrel-ish style makes them perfect on pears. We love them in navy as a denim alt, but we have our eye on toffee, and of course, black.

7. The Drawstring Denim Lounge Pants That Feel Like They Came From A Dream

Why we love them: Another loungey-feeling denim pant but these pair actually looks like jeans, so even though we have all the space and softness in the world, we just look like we’re wearing really nice, wide-leg jeans. They come in several washes but we love the black for a night out.
