by The Candidly Team
For nearly three decades now, the warm, understated sea of 90s autumnal loveliness that was Kathleen Kelly’s wardrobe has lived in our heads rent free.
Well, “free” isn’t the right word for it.
We’ve probably spent a liiiiiittle more than we should trying to replicate some of her cutest, cashmeriest looks.
We’ve been known to peel the internet stalker-style in an effort to recreate the wardrobes of our favorite film and TV characters. Like we did HERE. And HERE. And HERE. Oh, and also HERE.
And we’ve loooooong wanted to do the same for Miss Kelly. Turns out, every single thing we needed was in one little Shop Around The Corner. A shop we’ve written about before. A shop famous for its luxe Mongolian cashmere sweaters, organic cotton tees, crisp poplin button-downs. But the BIG fat caveat is it’s all at Fox Books prices.
We’re talking about Quince, an affordable luxury brand that uses real materials and green practices but by shipping direct from manufacturer to consumer, slashes the prices to be wildly within our budget.
And so, we sourced our entire fall, You’ve Got Mail-inspired wardrobe from this one brand. And here is exactly what’s in our carts (if not already in our closets):

1. THE OVERSIZED TURTLE
Baby Alpaca-Wool Turtleneck
Of course we begin with that one whisper-soft, oversized turtleneck which for years has been weirdly hard to find (at least for anywhere under $300). This one feels like a cloud - zero itchiness, chunky without adding bulk, hug-like while still being breathable. And the sleeve going in at the bottom (so we can roll them up and down and always look just right) is a stroke of genius.
Price: $70

2. THE CRISP WHITE BUTTON UP AND BLACK VEST
Mongolian Cashmere Mock Neck Sweater Vest
A cashmere vest is the clever piece we didn’t know we needed for fall. This one doubles as a very chic knit tank that we wear with jeans to the fall farmers’ market and with fitted skirts to work. But layer it over a crisp white button-down, and oof, if it isn’t the most sophisticated, bookish look of our lives.
We also love, love, love THIS* ribbed version (also cashmere, also insanely affordable).
Price: $60
100% Organic Cotton Poplin Cropped Long Sleeve Shirt
The crisp, white button-down makes an appearance many times in the movie both on its own and under a vest. Costume designers clearly understood it’s the easiest transitional piece to have in your closet that makes you look instantly styled. So the question isn’t really “do we need one"?” It’s “why pay more than this for the perfect one?”

3. THE WHITE TEE AND CARDI COMBO
Stretch Cotton Jersey Fitted T-Shirt
Ditto the perfect white tee. This one has that slim fit that smooths us under sweaters and makes all our prettiest cardis have more of a cool factor. That’s what works about Meg’s outfits. She mixes fitted with spacious, so there’s always balance and impeccable proportions to her looks.
Price: $20

4. THE WIDE-LEG PANTS ANd belt
Stretch Crepe Pleated Wide Leg Pants
At last, we get to the pants. In general, Meg Ryan is queen of the high-waist, wide-leg pants. This drapey pair makes us look nipped and elongated (and unlike Meg, we have lotsa curves and big butts and belly pooches).
Price: $70

4. The TRENCH
Comfort Stretch Trench Coat
We wrote an entire article about the quiet power of the classic trench. Yes, watching a congested Kathleen Kelly scramble to toss hers on over PJs and answer the door was pique Meg Ryan adorability. But we also saw it on Audrey and Ingrid and Katharine and Meryl and every smoldering woman we’ve ever wanted to emulate on screen. This coat over cashmere is foolproof. The silhouette? Bliss. And just LOOK at the back.

5. THE CArdI SET

6. The SHIFT DRESS OVER THE FITTED SHIRT
Italian Wool Sleeveless Dress
Another simple act of costume design genius. We love the idea of a sleek, clean-lined dress, but either they’re so tight, we feel self-conscious or so loose, we feel like tents. This one is perfect and skimming, and so layerable over a fitted turtle or long-sleeve tee. Add tights and boots and ugh, perfection.
Price: $100

7. THE SWEET SKIRT
Mongolian Cashmere Midi Skirt
Kathleen had many a fall/winter-appropriate skirt that she styled with tights and loafers and coats. And what’s better suited for fall/ winter than a cashmere midi skirt? This one makes every dumb tee in our closet look quiet luxury. And both the thickness and ribbing help hide all our lumps and bumps. There are more colors. Go look!
Price: $100
Ultra-Stretch Ponte Pencil Skirt
And of course, you need the stretchy pencil skirt to balance all your big, cozy sweaters and coats. This one makes your legs look 3 inches longer. And we’re not completely opposed to wearing it with tights and tall boots, fuzzy cash socks peeking out from below.
Price: $40

9. The SWEATER DRESS

BONUS: THE ACCESSORIES
The Loafers*: This will balance all your winter looks while keeping your feet warm. Plus these loafers literally FEEL like sneakers.
The Shopper Tote*: Let’s be honest, a canvas book bag gets wet in the rain and doesn’t actually contain the hoards of crap we lug around. This leather one does, and it will last a lifetime.
The Scarf*: Pure cashmere. And the plaid matches e-v-e-r-y-t-h-I-n-g!
