Yet another internet “phrase” to hopefully jumpstart all of us into making better choices for our health now that we’re oldish.

And what better way to entice us than by appealing to our giant, shallow egos?

Admit it—if this article’s title was like: how to be healthier by doing these 10 things, you probably wouldn’t have clicked. In fact, we know you wouldn’t have clicked because we’ve written things like THIS and THIS and track how many of you read those articles and the number is abysmal.

Why?

Preventative health-related lifestyle changes is wildly unsexy and boring! But making small shifts in order look hotter is deliciously enticing.

And so, today, we bring you 10 steps that we are committing to do every. single. day. We’ve done it before, and while it does take a fair amount of commitment, we have this to look forward to:

• Heaps of energy

• Glowing skin

• Shiny hair

• Clear minds

• Bangin bods

Join us?

Let’s go.

1. Sleeping a lot. Like, a lot a lot.

We love this one because it just means there’s a medical reason to participate in our favorite activity on earth—sleeping. Chronic sleep deprivation can lead to diabetes and heart disease, you guys. Get in bed at 9pm. Honestly try it. It feels so blissful. Just don’t scroll TikTok for 4 hours. We know. Impossible!

2. Not drinking

Here’s the bottom line. Now that we’re 40, we feel bad after we drink. Like physically. It just sucks. And we realized most of why we drink is because we’re trying to be social, or it’s just habit. And we don’t need to get drunk in order to feel bad the next day; just one glass of wine makes us feel like we were run over by a truck the next morning. So instead, we’re doing lots of Topo Chico with a squeeze of lime, Recess, Poppi, Olipop, Spindrift and….Diet Coke. Hot middle-aged girls need their vices, too.

3. Eating 100 grams of protein a day

Once you get cottage cheese, Fage yogurt, a box of egg whites, and bone broth in the mix, this number becomes MUCH more manageable. We also wrote a big protein guide HERE which we ourselves consult constantly. On days we’re behind, we rely on THIS semi-trash drink that has 30 grams of protein, is easy to throw in our bag, and tastes like heaven.

Ok, but WHY is protein important?

1. It keeps us full. And we are hungry, hungry ladies. When a big portion of our cals is from protein, it means that instead of wolfing down a double cheeseburger on the way home from work because we have zero time and then are hungry 40 minutes later, we scramble up some eggs and tortillas and throw avocado salsa on it and stay full for 4 hours.

2. Protein repairs our muscles AND our bones

3. Protein helps to BUILD lean muscle, which overall helps our metabolism

Net net: eat. more. protein.

4. Moving for at least 150 minutes a week

We prefer this to a number of steps because the number itself just feels more manageable. 150 minutes is 2 eps of Moonlighting. Surely we’re able to muster that. We’re doing a 30-min walk first thing in the morning (trying THIS trend which we’re liking) and another 30-min walk at night, which of course now has to be at like 4:15 since it gets dark at 2pm.

We do THIS arm routine a couple times a week once it’s quiet at night in our livingrooms, and use THIS app for more involved weight workouts, which we also do a couple times a week.

We also wear THESE sneakers because they’re the best, most comfortable sneakers we’ve ever worn for walking and light workouts—they MAKE us want to move.

5. Getting a colonoscopy

The recommended age is 45 now. So even if you’re close to that age, get on it. We’re also getting a blood panel that includes a check on our cholesterol and glucose levels. We are committed to preventing problems instead of trying to deal with them in a panic when they happen. Nothing could be hotter.

6. Eating at least 25 grams of fiber every day

We eat tons of berries, we track our macros (gag sorry), but we have recently been astonished by how using THIS daily fiber in our yogurt and smoothies makes a huge difference in our poop-happiness. We also swear by THESE unsexy, unhot little pills every day. Low fiber diets can lead to IBS, diverticulitis, heart disease, and bowel cancer. Not hot.

7. Quitting daily sugar

We are deeply, deeply vain, and sugar makes us look old. And does horrible things to our bodies. This doesn’t mean we won’t have treats sometimes. It just means we aren’t going to eat a granola bar as a snack every day and pretend it’s healthy.

8. Taking our supps & vits every damn day

We do E, D, B12, Mag citrate, Mag glycinate, Curcumin, Collagen, Resveratrol, CoQ10, Psyllium, and Omega 3.

Do you have to do all of those? No, not necessarily. But we were intrigued about the science-backed anti-aging properties of THESE supps in particular.

9. Using an Oura Ring

We have been really wowed by THIS thing. It can make recommendations on when to sleep, when to move, when we might be getting sick, meditation exercises, LOTS of helpful wellnessy things like that. It’s a big upfront expense, and you have to pay $5.99 a month, but we find it’s worth it for how much it forces us to prioritize our health and not just drift off into taking care of everyone else land, which is seemingly what all of us gals tend to do.

10. Using this skincare hack

Makeup is not the answer post-40. Skincare is. But when it’s 10:30 and we’re exhausted, the last thing we want to do is some whole thing in front of the sink, especially once our jammies are on and the idea of a single drop of water running from our face to our elbow makes us apoplectic with rage. So what do we do? The MOMENT we get home from work, or when our work day ends, we do our evening skincare routine. We still have the energy for it, we’re almost invigorated by it. We have an entire section on our site dedicated to our favorite skincare products for over-40 gals. Nothing is sponsored. Just really effective and beloved by all of us.

DM us HERE if you need daily motivation. Us middle-aged, hot girls need to stick together.
