WHY: What business do we have following influencers in their 20s and 30s when all of us behind the scenes are pushing 50? None! Except also who cares and we don’t always have to be practical and pragmatic, and yes, we know that means that sometimes we’ll be influenced to buy things that do work on young skin and definitely DO NOT work on old(ish) skin but…are you expecting us to have NOT immediately purchased this highlighter after seeing this photo?!?
We know. Perhaps you had to lie down on a fainting couch. We did too. We don’t love announcing definitives and absolutes (except we do so here, here, here, and here) but this might be the most perfectly emblematic photo of what we dream our skin can look like. It’s the photo we might use in the dictionary if (when) aliens come down and ask what a perfect glossy, glowy, blindingly wet highlighter looks like.
Through our sleuthing, we determined the product is none other than the Victoria Beckham Reflect Highlighter Stick* in the shade pearl.
So we bought it in a frenzy.
Actually we bought many* because we knew handing all of our girlfriends and mothers and sisters a tiny package that contained the perfect highlighter we’ve all been searching for since birth is exactly what the holiday season is all about.
You already know we died for it since you’re reading this article and we wouldn’t be writing an article about a highlighter if it was just ok. But when we tell you we love it, we can’t even begin to express how much we love it.
Let us first begin with the gorgeousness of the product itself.
The packaging is stunning, compact, weighty, perfect. (And for the price, it better be.)
Next, a swatch on the hand, so that you can see its blinding sheen, but please note that you will not see any chunky shimmer or glitter, which is an absolute NO for skin over 40. (Or 35 to be honest.)
And here it is on BARE SKIN which is one of its more exciting uses.
It’s impossible to overstate how juicy this highlighter is, except it’s not at all sticky which we know some of you don’t love about THIS product, which we also love and write about incessantly. It also comes in this shade* which is lovely for darker skin tones.
Why is it so good? Unclear. Perhaps because VB herself is hovering around 50 and knows that glittery, chunky highlighter just exacerbates lines and texture and makes all of us look 37 years older than we actually are.
We know the price is a tad more than we all normally might spend on highlighter, but when you find the perfect thing you’ve been searching for since the dawn of time itself, it’s hard to not just pounce. Also, we were not gifted this, we purchased this along with all the additional ones for gifts, with our own money.
And we’ll do it again the instant we use it all up—which, judging by how little we use, might be every 6 months. So 2 a year to have the most glowing gorgeous skin of our dreams? Yes.
