We look into our sea of clothes each morning and want to weep. The decision-making paralyzes us … even though we ourselves bought everything in front of us.

We dream of a simple uniform we can adorn our bodies with that doesn’t require effort or thought. It must be classic, it must be chic, it must be polished, it must be comfortable.

And so, during our 12,367th watch of Pretty Woman the other day, we realized our answer to this conundrum has been in front of our faces since 1990.

And it is this outfit:

These photos are so hard to find on the internet we actually had to TURN ON OUR TV and capture it in real time—and the camera cuts away so often such that a full outfit photo is barely on screen. And we had to include that face shot because, well, it’s Julia.

And while none of us have her gorgeously lithe, coltish legs and enviable height and, well, the general beauty of one of the biggest movie stars ever to live, this outfit magically looks incredible on all of us mortals.

Exhibit A!

Blazer* size 6 | Jeans* size 28 | Belt* size medium | Boots* size 8

We threw on THIS blazer* and THESE insanely comfortable and affordable jeans* and actually grabbed a white t-shirt from our husband (what’s your favorite white t-shirt brand? We don’t have one) and of course, our favorite belt of all time and the most comfortable black boots* we own et voila! Our new, go-to uniform we use when we’re overwhelmed by our closets, tired of thinking about clothes, have zero time in the morning, or just want a chic outfit we always know looks polished. (And if you’re like us and you screenshot photos you see on the internet both to keep as references for outfit ideas but also to be able to zoom in for details, it’s possible you are also seeing the most beautiful cheek highlight which we just discovered and wrote a whole thing about HERE.)

If we have a dressier thing, we add THIS scarf* and THESE unbelievably chic, slouchy boots* which we wear OUTSIDE OUR JEANS which are so supremely comfortable to walk in all day it’s hard to even express in words. It looks like JR is wearing flats in the original outfit and once we roll back around to spring we will be wearing THESE flats*, our favorite of all time.

Here is another version of the outfit just tweaked slightly if you’re more of a butt-covered kind of gal—blessedly, this blazer both fully covers the butt AND gives a magical hourglass shape to us all:

Blazer size 6 | Jeans* size 28 | Belt* size medium | Boots* size 8

Proof to show it covers the full bum

THIS blazer is a miracle and we are slowly but surely buying it in every color—it’s pricey but we’ve never worn a blazer more than this one. The jeans are the same amaaaaaazingly affordable ones from Quince with the same belt, but this time with our favorite leopard boots* which are magically always on sale AND profoundly comfy to walk in AND have the power to completely transform any outfit.

This outfit is a true chameleon—perfect for almost every occasion, and somehow always the correct choice—a timeless classic that is both casual and polished at the same time.

Thanks, Julia. We steal from the best. Actually, thank you Marilyn Vance, the costume designer for Pretty Woman. We didn’t want to attribute the wrong person after all—it would have been a big mistake. Big. Huge!
