We Tried 36 “Long Wear” Eyeliners, And This Is The Only One That’s Good
WHAT: Glossier No. 1 Pencil
WHY: The number in the title is a real number. We have been on the quest for a loooooong time.
Here’s the thing. Eyeliners don’t seem to be made for hooded eyes. And if you’re over, say, 35, your eyes are getting a little hoody. And no matter what eyeliner marketing people say about them “lasting 12 hours!” those 12 hours are obviously only tested on doe-eyed teenagers who wouldn’t know a droopy lid if it smacked them in their dewy, fresh, rested face.
So imagine our surprise when we discovered the single most long-wearing eyeliner we’ve ever tried, is by the single most millennial makeup brand on planet earth.
Yep. You guessed it. Glossier. It’s called the No. 1 Pencil and friends? It’s perfect.
Yes, there are lots of bright colors you might not wear. Although sidebar, don’t be afraid of bright colors. A thin pop of pastel (we like the lavender and mint shades) right above your upper lash line?
Well, then you’ll have a recreation of the most beautiful makeup look ever featured on Carrie Bradshaw, and one that we still think about to this day:
She comes in 10 shades, all matte (no glitter in any of them), and they are truly waterproof and utterly transfer proof. Yes, it does require a heavy-duty eye makeup remover (THIS ONE is by far our favorite, especially for sensitive eyes), but isn’t that a small price to pay to NEVER see those dreaded raccoon smears above and below your eyes? We say yes.
We’re not quite sure how Glossier accomplished a task that so many have failed at, but at a mere $16, we bought four shades, and have been using nothing else. And while the brand feels verrrry Gen Z-y, they sometimes seem to open their loving arms to us olds, too.
