Every Time I Stop Using This "Miracle" Cream On My 42-Year-Old Skin I Age 5 Years And Immediately Break Out
WHAT: Emma Lewisham Supernatural Face Crème Riche*
WHY: Sometimes we try something new on our skin and after weeks or months can’t tell a bit of difference. Other times, we can tell a difference, but we secretly wonder, maybe it’s just the weather changing or all those tangerines I’ve been eating or maybe my hormones have suddenly decided to align in such a way that I’m now biologically primed to have great skin?
Because I am skeptical, and because it’s my job to try out loads of beauty products, I try to be extra sure when a specific product is working miracles. And the ultimate test is this:
Stop using that product for a month and see what happens.
I recently did this with a product I’d fallen deeply, deeply in love with - a face cream I’d been sent to try from a New Zealand-based brand I hadn’t before heard of called Emma Lewisham.
And well, why don’t I just SHOW you what happened?
Not to confuse you but the second photo is my skin AFTER I stopped using the cream. I don’t think I need to spell it out for you but clearly there’s more texture, more gape to my pores, weird dry patches, redness galore, and you guessed it, a whole lotta breaking out. Wheee!
Maybe it’s a fluke you say. Well, let’s talk about round two. After abstaining from the product for a month, I of course went right back to it, this time buying it with my own hard-earned dollars. Within a week my skin was clearing out, there was smoothness, evenness, elasticity, tautness, and eventually even a healthy (non-greasy) glow that I had not seen in my skin in years.
The whole experience inspired to me to write this article about 8 products I'm genuinely afraid to stop using on my aging, acne -prone skin. However, my fears came to fruition when I ran out of my second bottle of the precious cream on vacation. Instead of panic-ordering a fresh pot to be waiting for me at home, I decided to really test this out and see what happens if I stop for another month.
Why do I do this to myself?
You know the rest. Texture. Pores. Dryness. Redness. Pimples. And sag.
But at least, I had my answer: Emma Lewisham’s cream is doing unbelievable, transformative, anti-aging things for my 40+ combination skin that I had not experienced before.
And it appears I’m not alone. In a consumer survey of those who used the Supernatural Face Crème Riche:
93% said their skin looked firmer, lifted, more supple, and elastic (to which I wholeheartedly agree).
90% said their skin’s tone and texture looks dramatically transformed (to which I also wholeheartedly agree).
I suppose it’s now time to to talk about WHY it works. The brand collaborated with physiologists and biochemists to design formulas that “mimic the skin's natural cellular pathways.” I went ahead and bullet-pointed a list of highlights for you so as not to be too technical or exhausting:
It targets collagen production: The powerful formula combines specialized plant extracts and lipopeptides to work with the skin’s own signaling system to increase collagen production and halt its breakdown. Clinical results showed it synthesized collagen production at a cellular level by up to 21%.
It locks in moisture: Something the brand refers to as 72-hour moisture lock technology helps quench the skin in an ongoing way that boosts its own hyaluronic acid production and makes the skin barrier stronger (bouncier is also a good word for it).
It smoooooooths the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles: Obviously this is the case or we wouldn’t even be talking about it. The terminology gets very sciencey but essentially the cream combines 23 high-performing actives to restore your skin and prevent damage.
They focus on natural ingredients and sustainable practices: The brand offers convenient and less expensive product refills. All of Emma Lewisham’s products are free from synthetic chemicals, GMO, toxins, fillers, artificial colours, artificial fragrances, parabens, phthalates, sulphates, DEA, petrochemicals, mineral oils, silicones, formaldehyde, triclosan, chemical screens, and phenoxyethanol.
Ok, I’ve exhausted you.
I personally use the cream morning and night, but you can also just apply it before bed to wake up with renewed, supple, baby skin.
I absolutely plan to try more from the brand but I will not be conducting any more tests wherein I deny my skin the Supernatural Face Crème Riche’s magic for longer than a day. I’ve been through enough.
Price: $95 ($85 for the refill)
