Listen, we love basics. We write about them a lot. We’re just saying that right now, there are 9 things making us feel euphoric about getting dressed in the fall, and none of them are a plain, white t-shirt.
Don’t get us wrong. We need those ultra-flattering, staple items to anchor all our outfits. But once we get the basics down, our clothes become about personality. That’s when we get to really enjoy the pieces that feel like joyful expressions of who we are. Because without them, things can get very dull very fast, and we start hating all our clothes all over again.
Have we justified ourselves enough? Here are the 9 non-basic things that are thrilling us this fall.
1. These Leopard Heels That Are replacing our black heels this fall
WHAT: Naturalizer 27 EDIT Elaine Slingback Dress Shoe*
Why We Love It: We wear a lot of neutrals in the fall/winter: black-on-black, black-on-denim, white tees and blue jeans. Now imagine adding this heel instead of a boring old black shoe, and poof, all of that black and white and denim is elevated to new, gorgeous heights. It really helps that this is a sneaker-level-of-comfort heel. Thank our age for terms like “REZORB™ responsive cushioning” and “signature contour + comfort technology” for becoming the sexiest words we can imagine when it comes to our shoes. Bottom line: they’re bliss on our tired, old feet.
Price: $170
2. These joy-inducing Polka Dot Pants that are also replacing our black pants this fall (and possibly forever)
WHAT: Sézane Celsio Trousers*
Why we love it: We can all kind of see how good the fit is, correct? That high waist and sliiiiightly flared wide leg? Yeah, these are gonna look great on you. If you’re like us, you need another pair of black pants like you need a hole in the head. But this pair excites. We can’t wait to wear them with all our dozens of fall sweaters.
Price: $185
3. This Soft Polo Sweater in a color we’ve been haunted by since Gwyneth wore that all-green outfit in great expectations
WHAT: Madewell Polo Sweater in SoftWool*
Why We Love It: It’s been a goal of ours to find something special in that pre-Goop Gwyneth green (see her iconic 90s look HERE). And how exciting it is to have that buttery sweater we reach for every week of the chilly season be in such a distinct color instead of the same old black/white/gray/beige/navy blue?
Price: $118
4. The Autumn Set That some of you will be intimidated by—but don’t be
WHAT: Aritzia Tenet Jacket* and Touchpoint Short*
Why we love it: A set makes us feel like we put in some effort when it’s actually the easiest way to look chic. This is not your typical pants and blazer, and yet, it’s such a quintessentially fall look:
The shorts are great on curves, and the jacket can pretty much act as your everyday fall jacket on its own.
Price: $228 for the jacket, $118 for the shorts
5. This Perfect Blouse to dress up a pair of jeans with no effort
WHAT: Paige Mila Blouse*
Why We Love It: Actually, this top is a lot of effort because there are a million and two buttons, but the delicacy is worth it. The bodice is really skimming on a belly pooch and the bell sleeve balances a big bum.
Because we could all use more flattering, lifetime blouses that create outfits all by themselves, this one especially feels like a find.
Price: $329
6. The enormous pants that give you that “effortlessly cool” look except you did zero work to get it AND they feel like house clothes
WHAT: ASOS DESIGN Cotton Nylon Super Wide Leg Pants*
Why We Love It: We live in stuff like this. Like painful heels, we just won’t do suffocating pants anymore. The scale makes them feel sort of bold and high-fashion, but they’re so comfy we’d also take a nap in them. Pair with a fitted top and a cropped jean jacket to create perfect proportions.
Price: $65
7. This Chic Sweater Tee That Makes Us Feel 72% More French
WHAT: Boden Bow Neck Knitted T-Shirt*
Why We Love It: Imagine this top (or one of the other colors it comes in) tucked into a high-waisted, navy flare pant and a Mary Jane flat. It’s the silhouette and street style you might imagine belonging to a Coca Cola pin-up girl. And now it belongs to you. How nice!
Price: $130
8. This Incredibly Romantic Dress that’s somehow flattering on everyone
WHAT: Paige Kiana Dress*
Why We Love It: If you are a true lover of fall, this dress will speak to your soul. And if you’re not, this dress will look f**king amazing on you, because every smocked, ruffled, intricate part of it is flattering on an all body types.
* Gifted
Price: $699
9. This College Stripe Skirt we have no event on the horizon to wear it for but we’re going to find one pronto
