WHAT: Ruti The On The Loose Work Pants*
WHY: You know the ones, yes? You had them in your mind before you could scroll down and confirm. Because we all know. We see them no fewer then 437 times a day in our insta feed our Facebook feed as TikTok ads. And we’ll say this—no marketing team works harder.
So we reached out to ruti and asked if they’d send us a pair to try. And they did!
Audie asked for a size 6* (her typical pant size), and they were too short in the rise (she has an extremely long torso) but because the comfort and shape and fabric! (we’ll get to that shortly) were so heavenly, she found one of only two stores in California to try on other sizes.
And as luck would have it, the 8 fit literally like they were made for her:
There is something about this particular barrel shape that is so IMMENSELY flattering. Not too barrely, but that slight bow-shape makes everyone’s legs look slender and gorgeous.
Here’s the size 6 on Carolyn, “styled out” in a sort of casj-Friday look:
The fabric is very simple—nylon and spandex. There’s a ton of stretch, they simply do not wrinkle (so they’re superb for travel) but because they’re so lightweight, they’re a great alternative for those of us who would rather perish than wear shorts in the spring and summer. They look perfect with our favorite, comfortable ankle boots*, the tank we write about frankly too much, and a jean jacket*.
And weirdly, they sort of transmutate to become anything you need them to be. Here they are again in a perfect, “vacation mode” situation:
We actually did some due diligence and bought the various dupes, specifically the one on Amazon (which straight up used the ruti photos!) but after one wash they became scratchy and pilled inside. We’re much too old for pilling. And speaking of wash, we throw the Ruti pants in the washing machine on cold and then let them dry over a chair, and they’re perfect.
Do we love the price? Not particularly no. And we are an age where we have learned that buying 4 cheaper things we don’t love as much doesn’t make economic sense so we buy the better thing once and wear it one thousand times? Yes, we sure are!
We love the black* because well, it’s black, but we’re eyeing the plume* and coffee* with a certain amount of lust…
